I think I have a shot of getting into a non-HYP ivy because my school does not send many kids to the Ivies, and I am ranked 3 in a class of 217 and have pretty good board scores, extracurriculars and recs. Should I go to the state university (it's not one of the good ones like Wisc, Cal, UVA, Texas or Michigan) and study electrical engineering, or should I go to an IVY and study something else, probably economics or maybe history. My next step would be to go the consulting / finance route, MBA after a few years and then probably a hedge fund or Ibanking. I think if I go to the state Univ, the academic environment will not be as rigorous, and I can distinguish myself enough to make up for having a degree from a less prestigious school. At an IVY, however, I fear the academic competition will be too cutthroat in engineering (there are not too many Asians at my local state university), so I am not sure if I can make the grade and attract the attention of places like Goldman, Accenture, etc. when I am looking for a job. Suggestions?
