I have issues with cops sometimes but gotta support what this cop here is saying.
All they have to deal with and with little praise and people are worried about them breaking the speed limit?
The speed limit?

No they don't. They MAY be asked to put their life on the line any particular day. Lets not exaggerate.
That said, I have no problem with cops speeding.
I see that the scrutiny bothers you. It would probably bother me too. You're out there trying to do your job, doing the best you can, and everyone is watching you, second guessing you, etc. I get it. We're all just trying to make it to 5 pm so that we can go home, right?
But I'm telling you, you're in a very special position. Whenever you have those thoughts of "this is a pain in the ass, just leave me alone and let me do my job", you gotta push those thoughts away. Because you have the unique authority to deprive people of their freedom. Let that sink in. I mess up at work, and some numbers on a spreadsheet are wrong. You mess up and it could ruin someone's life. Hell, it could end someone's life.
We HAVE TO have eyes on you at all times. I'm sorry, it just has to be that way. The stakes are too high. It would bother me enough that I wouldn't want to be a cop. Sounds like it bothers you. I hope the financial rewards (good pay, good retirement) make it worth it. If it ever becomes too much, to the point that you don't like the person or cop you're becoming, you should walk away. It's a tough job and unfortunately it needs to be in a close to perfect way.
Needs to be *done* in a close to perfect way
PS. I mention the child going down on her 3 wheel bike cause it is so common. Lets say you see a little 5 yr old slip off curb and bang down on their shoulder. Ouch..she stands up crying..no one around. Here is how one of these went for me. This day I had an adult DFS worker on ride along with me..THANK GOD! We both jump out...run over to her, a neighbor says I know her parents..she calls them..they respond GOOD RIGHT! Parents say don't need Medical..I say PLEASE I'm callin em..smart right! Medical comes she is fine, parents refuse offer to transport to ER. I got video goin but can't hear sound. 4 hours later I'm in IA investigation. First problem, why did it take me 32 minutes and 42 seconds. I say we were covering things, called parents, called medical, they took 16 minutes to arrive. They call me a liar! Only took medical 13 minutes 47 seconds from dispatch to arrive. Why did I give child the police teddy bear as a gift, we CARRY FOR THIS PURPOSE! Anyway I get letter cause a serious call that needed a back occurred while I was busy, and I wasted time talkin to parents. Then two weeks later parents want me given a correction letter, THEY DID NOT SUE, for not insisting child should go to hospital! They refused, medical said they agreed! So I get a second letter of reprimand. Every freakin call is like this...PUT THE UNIFORM ON IF YOU THINK I AM NOT TRUTHFUL!
you say everything is recorded, but it doesn't matter. You could kill someone, not defending themselves, on camera and be acquitted. Being recorded is only an issue when you have to face consequences for wrong actions.
Hey d bag, if it's that much of a problem for you, DON'T BE A COP. It's that simple. Why in the hell should I feel sorry for or have sympathy for you? You chose that career. If you don't like it you can certainly do something else. SO TAKE OFF THE UNIFORM OR STOP COMPLAINING. Pvssy.
From your posts it sounds like you are a good cop - but someone who is kind of at the end of his rope regarding all the BS you have to put up with. No offense but maybe you should walk away now before you snap.
Lots of l-o-n-g responses.
Their speeding doesn't bother me because it doesn't affect me. What does bother me is when they don't use their turn signals.
I drove for a living for 38 years and when drivers use their turn signals it makes driving easier and safer for everyone.
Stay out of the fast lane, don't tail-gate and use your directional signals.

The second you start shift your life is on the line always. I don't know that cops feel " I'm putting my life on the line for the citizens", really I don't think men in the service feel they are putting their lives on the line for others. Its more I don't wanna get hurt, or go down. Or anyone else get hurt cause I did not react. Once, first call out, got a VIN number inspection, guy wanted to verify VIN on this old car he just bought. I knock on his door, swoosh door swings open, and he is pointing an old double barrel shotgun at my chest. Everyone you approch, everyone you speak with is armed, a gun, a knife, probably in a good draw position. Think about it...review the tens of thousands of officer killed summaries. Many on video. This shotgun guy wanted suicide by cop. I was able to talk him down. I don't think I stopped trembling for two years.
Again, you're a pvssy and you shouldn't be a cop. I don't care about your whining and pissing and moaning. The simplest solution is to find another job. You have to be a troll.
7/10 for use of caps

Sounds like you have an jag for a supervisor. Sorry to hear that.
You need to seriously consider what a previous poster wrote in response to you. If you hate it so much then look for alternative work. You are about to explode. I would hate to be the poor sap that gets pulled over for 5mph over the limit on one of your bad days.
Also that "PUT THE UNIFORM ON..." crap is pointless. I can't just do that and you know that, just as you can't just step into the shoes of most other professions.
I'm a puvsy. I'm about to snap. I hate my job? I just gave U guys a very common call that goes down every day on shift. I don't hate it, I got 22 years in. I just remember the little girls huge smile with that teddy bear. No more crying! What I gave you sounds so insane to you that you feel anyone would hate this crap. You pull over that naked freak guy who just kidnapped a 4 year old girl...and you got him in 2 minutes before he touched her...it makes up for so much. I say to you all PUT THE UNIFORM ON! I will shut up now, I can tell you this..you guys that hate me, call me pvsussy or say whatever about me...means nothing, Id jump to your side in a second, Id give everything I got to protect your children, family and make sure they were perfectly safe and secure. Everything you expect from me and way more I would give. It is an honor to be able to respond to all of you should you need me. Got to fix my leaking roof now. Take care you guys.
I don't hate you but I do think that you're a whiny girl on here spouting off about your job. I live and work in one of the most dangerous cities in the us (based on size). I know tons of cops and I know what goes on. I deal with the same people the cops do and have for the last 22 years.. None of what you said sounds insane to me, i've seen some crazy shit. All of that PUT THE UNIFORM on is just bullsh*t.
