Flotrack Beer Mile Event in Austin - Moved

Isn't he organizing an event of his own to be run later? Maybe early next year. Sad to see such a young sport already having divided factions.

I also heard he was working with people to have an event in March in San Francisco.

I'm sure it's likely to have divided factions until the emergence of a governing body (which would be really sweet)

Nielsen's record is tainted as it occurred in an event without any other competitors. Hope somebody bests it tomorrow.

It's quite possible the event may not be taking place. If it does take place, I don't think it will be at the Yellowjacket stadium as advertised. The manager for that venue spoke with me this afternoon and said she had no reservation for the beer mile event. She then texted back and said the event had been cancelled.

They apparently didn't properly reserve the venue and/or secure the proper permits.

We are/were looking into doing a story on the competing beer miles as we thought it would be interesting. A group of people in California (who have the WR holder on their team) are/were trying to put one on. They told us they had looked into having a huge beer mile event (with pros and for the masses) at the San Francisco Giants stadium (AT&T Park) after being denied permits at a ton of high schools and colleges in the area. They said no school would touch it. The WR holder was even interviewed by the campus police after they realized he ran it on their school property.

Flotrack and the Calfiornia group were discussing doing something together. The california group told us that on the day a second conference call was scheduled between the two parties, flotrack sent out a press release announcing their event (and mark floreani didn't deny that when I spoke with him today). Since then flotrack has been putting up videos/previews almost mocking the WR holder for not showing when there is a pretty good reason why he is't coming to Austin - he is working with a party that Flotrack is competing with.

It will be interesting to see what flotrack does on Wednesday. In trying to be first, it seems as if if they didn't get the proper permission for the event.

Maybe, just maybe, they'll look for some different material now to post 47 different ways each day on Facebook and Twitter...? Holy crap, it's getting annoying.

How did the track owner ever find out? Anyway, it's really on the event director to make sure the permits are up to date. It's the most basic thing they needed to take care of.

don't get how they're doing this on a 3.x-mile track.... and seems awful for spectators if they just set up beer every quarter within a 1-mile stretch?

i feel like i have to be missing something...

That's too bad, if someone runs a record it won't count. The beer mile rules say it has to occur on a track--for record purposes.

Talk about poor planning - why was this track chosen in the first place?! Event like this cannot be taken seriously if it is organised by monkeys.
