Give ATCs focus on the hobby jogger "event" races recently, I don't disagree that Amy can probably put together a better training program than a random volunteer who means well but may not have been running more than 5 years him/herself.
She's a talented runner and although I don't know her personally, I'm sure she's a great person.
I think the question is, ATC also said they wanted to get a member to the Olympics. Not the Trials, the freaking Olympics. And that's a pretty big hurdle. You have to a) recruit the talent or b)find elite talent locally.
Atlanta has a lot of great runners, but the closest ATC has gotten to the Olympics was was Janet Cherbon-Bawcom was an ATC member in the Houston marathon trials, and I don't think she got there thanks to the ATC coaching.
I don't know how someone with out a strong talent development resume is going to create a stable of recruits that will get to the Olympics. Maybe I'm underestimating and Amy is the person to do this.
We'll find out I guess.
