Alan is a guy I respect a great deal. This is a pretty interesting read. It's very easy to "always bash USATF" but he gives everyone involved in the bid high props.

Obviously the downward trend continues as major world destinations are not willing to spend $Biliions on your grandparent's format of track meets in this new age of social media. Minor towns have now popped up as bidders on IAAF Outdoors. For 2021 I'd like to see bids from Monte Carlo, Austin, etc.
Yeah, people forget Doha LOST their previous bid. Two-vote loss is actually very creditable for a first World Championship bid. If they keep pushing they might get it next time. (Depends on the competition, of course.)
The awful conditions for IAAF WC have shrunk willing bidders to a laughable bunch of desperados looking for attention at any cost. Same for the Winter Olys and Futbol World Cup. My guess is that significant reforms are needed by the IOC, FIFA, and IAAF to emphasize athletes and coaches, minimizing non-participant delegations, eiminating individual national media/press replaced by pool coverage by pro-bono volunteers.
Well, the only thing he wrote about Hightower was that she stayed out of the way: "..., Hightower for giving [Siegel] room to run the business that USATF has to be." Now that the bid is out of the way, the usual s**tstorm will begin again at the national convention.
Agreed............USATF is useless.
