i've been toying with the idea of making a race-time calculator. i'm a CS major so i can program it myself, but here's my theory:
1. get like 10+ athletes who have raced 1mi, 2mi, 5k, 10k recently
2. create a relational chart that creates a formula for each time. example:
1mi time * (SOMETHING) = 2mi time
2mi time * (SOMETHING) = 5k time
3. average ALL those formula numbers for each distance and then calculate a close average time prediction?
thoughts?
Getting ten friends together isn't enough of a sample size.
Here's the standard in use since 1997. I'm assuming you want to improve on it?
T2=T1×(D2÷D1)1.06
T1 is the time achieved for D1.
T2 is the time predicted for D2.
D1 is the distance over which the initial time is achieved.
D2 is the distance for which the time is to be predicted.
should be T2=T1*(D2/D1)^1.06

basically what i want to achieve is a calculator that takes in 3-4 race times to make the goal output more accurate by taking speed, etc into consideration.
example:
input:
10:30 2mi
4:50 mi
60 sec 400m
output
17:05

I've definitely come across predictors online that allow you to input multiple race times at once. They may be more rare than the standard ones, but they exist. Do a search.
