We weren't certain of Theroux's status after CU only finished six men at the Mountain Regional on Friday, but we just got off the phone with Mark Wetmore and he confirmed that Theroux is fine and he wanted to hold him out to give him a little more rest for NCAAs.
Wetmore said that he only started six guys at Regionals because he "felt it was best for our progress towards the nationals." He also said that Morgan Pearson is available to race on Saturday and that "we may yet use him" (our suspicion is that he will not race).
He said that this is the first year his team has really had high expectations heaped upon them after winning NCAAs (in past years, they lost key cogs to graduation) and that the feeling is a bit different this year entering NCAAs as the favorite. With that said, he added that "The work is done. It’s a matter of behaving ourselves and executing a race strategy so it’s not that different."
Finally, Wetmore added that there's no single team he's worried about on Saturday but that Syracuse, Villanova and Oregon have all been running well coming into the meet.
