I say Komen's 3000m. People don't realize how difficult running back to back 3:40's is.

I think everyone realizes it, which is why it is widely regarded as the best men's distance record on the books.
Any number of women's distance records from 800m to 10K, set by drugged up "women" from eastern europe and China.
Flo Jo's record. Another druggie.
56 games
Almost every record set pre-EPO testing. It's sad but true.

will be broken long before Johnny Vander Meer's back-to-back no-hitters. Imagine trying to get that third one to break the record.
I agree with the 200m. Komen's 3000m is amazing, but Bekele or El G could take a shot at it. Unlikely, but possible. No one running now has even a remote shot at MJ's 200m.
12:37 is better than 7:20. Both are better than 26:20. 26:20 has the potential to really be smashed, but the pacing will have to be perfect and for a lot longer than it was when Bekele ran the current WR. A lot of college guys can add 30 seconds to their 5k times and double them, so Bekele should be able to add 25 seconds to his (if not less) and then double it, because he is going so much faster and has even better endurance/economy, so sub 26:10 is definitely not out of the question, and eventually sub 26.
Koch's 47.6 will not be broken until I'm old and gray. It's already near 20 years old and the best women in 2004 were 2 seconds slower. She's an admitted drug cheat. Of the top 10 times only one was set in the '90s and you'd have to go down to #27 for the most recent top performance (Ana Guevara's 2004 48.89).
As far as the men go, I'd say the 800 record will stand for a long time. 1:41:11 is 2 seconds faster than anyone ran last year. Kipketer owns 7 of the top 10 times and the other 3 were set in the 80s.
my 8.96 second WR in the original nintendo track and field 100m dash. all of my other records are bangin' as well

Agree. The most talented runner at his exact prime in lab controlled conditions would still have a hard time beating it.
Other than the double no-hit (hell, if we're talking baseball, there's a little one out there called 511 wins by a pitcher that will NEVER be broken), I'll have to say Mike Powell's long jump record of 29 feet 4 1/2 inches if we'e sticking to running or track and field events.

also remote is career complete games. The majority of basebal records to fall from here on out will be power based, rather than skills based (ichiro excepted).
I also vote for M.J.'s 200. What a p.i.m.p.
MJ 200 or Koch's 400.
In baseball, the toughest to break will be Fernando Tatis' record of two grand slams in one inning. It will never be broken.
In basketball, 55 rebounds in one game (Wilt) is incredible. Somone may get 100 points again, no one is getting 56 rebounds.
In football, Norm van Brocklin's single game passing record has stood the test of time. Cornerbacks are too good these days to allow over 550 yards of passing now.
In golf, Norman L. Manley's double albatross is unbreakable. Two holes-in-one on consecutive par 4s. Nobody is getting three.
In horse racing, no horse will legally break 2:24 at the Belmont (Secretariat, 1973).
In tennis, fewest unforced errors in a major final (2, by McEnroe at Wimbledon in 1984) is permanent. I make 2 enforced errors in most games against my 12-year-old daughter.
man i remember in an interview where dennis rodman said if he ever got 50 rebounds in a game he would play the next game naked. that woulda been a sight to see. not that this response contributes at all to the rest of the conversation but u tallking about the record made me think of that. he was such a great rebounder but his best game only gave him maybe half of wilt's best. it was crazy how good chamberlain was. ok thats all for my rambling. peace
