I am a fan, but is he going in reverse? This is a not even MP tempo effort for a guy like him.

Granted, he could be leaving Dr. Jack Daniels and could train under professor Jim Beam.
Very interesting--and thanks for the info. I am happy for the Halls.
At the 5 mile mark
Ryan Hall 24:35 9th place and 58 sec behind the leader
Sara 26:52 in the lead pack of women

It's illegal to do this in races.
What a crock!

So what is the truth here? Did R. Hall pace S. Hall? Did he run tempo?
None of the above.
He did not pace Sara and that is not tempo for Hall. If that is his new tempo when then he is in even more crap that anyone thought.
Think maybe God is pissed that Ryan dumped him as a coach and this piss poor effort was payback.
Nice race for his wife. Ryan Hall ran about what I thought he would. The winner, Leonard Korir, averaged 4:41, which is 5 seconds per mile slower than Hall's pr half marathon pace. This being in Pittsburgh, it might have been hilly, however.
Nice. 50:25 equals a 2:20 Marathon according to McMillan.
If he can shave off a couple of minutes, he MIGHT just be able to qualify for the OT trials.
Despite his up and down career, I have always rooted for Hall (and Webb and Ritz, etc.). But tempo run or not, there is no way around this fact: today Ryan Hall finished closer to Sara Hall than he did to Leonard Korir. Ouch.
I don't think we'll ever see an in form Ryan Hall again
Proof, if any were needed, that God doesn't care that much about distance running.
Maybe 5 minute pace is a little bit of an overstatement. Pittsburgh is very hilly. I'm not sure if there was a net uphill but the 10 mile course was probably not very easy. The 4:40 pace of the winner however was certainly something Ryan Hall should be A LOT closer to.

If this is true, then it's totally cool for him to do that!!! More power to them!!!
The rules there didn't say they couldn't do that, so what's the problem?
Not true. As another poster wrote, at the 5 mile mark he was 24:35 in 9th place and 58 sec behind the leader. In other words a positive split after a slow first five miles. Not good. Going in reverse.
It isn't true you dumbfuk.

Great race by Sara! She has gotten so much better lately. Opposite for Ryan! No speed with slow turnover equals awful running

Ryan looked really under pressure. I was doubting my pacing because of his performance. I knew he wasn't in good condition but I wasn't expecting him to have slipped this far back. It was pretty crazy to be putting the hurt on a guy who has run 2.04/2.06. I really hope he stays with jtupper. I think he's the right guy to bring back Ryan but it will take a while. Ryan is going to have to go through a complete rebuilding.
remember how we waited and waited for webb to run like the old webb? but instead he ran 4:02 and the like?
And we couldn't figure out what was wrong? Looks like the same thing is happening with Hall.
The only difference is that Hall has always been terrible at distances less than a half marathon. I hope that is the case here.
Poor Mr. Sara Hall.
