Hello, I was just recently prescribed Vyvanse by my doctor. I have a race this weekend and was wondering on whether it would affect me or not? Thanks!

Bump
better get a TUE
It will affect you.
1) It is a diuretic. Causes dry mouth and sends you running to the bathroom. Make sure to drink water and make sure bathroom business is taken care of.
2) Medicine hits its peak about three hours after ingestion and starts to really dye off about 6-9 hours later dependent on your dosage, tolerance for the medication etc. You don't want the come-down to be at the same time as your race.
Hi, I take Vyvanse for my ADHD. If you take it every day, you should probably take it before you race too, otherwise you will go into withdrawl, which sucks when you're racing. If you want to totally stop taking it you need four days before it's out of your system, and probably even longer before you don't have any withdrawl symptoms (for me that takes about a week when I occasionally take breaks from it). If you have a real job and actually need your Vyvanse, chances are that's really not good for your professional life, so I wouldn't advise doing so.
I didn't notice any change in running performance when I started taking it, but now when I stop and go into withdrawl, my performance suffers until the withdrawl period is over. The only real side effect for me is a little bit of anxiety, which can make me extremely anxious before racing, so I need to make sure to keep that under control (usually just rituals, imagery, and writing down my anxieties is enough).
As far as TUEs go, unless you're good enough that you're in an out-of-competition testing pool or are soon to compete in an international race, you actually can't apply for one ahead of time. You have to wait until you get tested, then be honest and apply for one retroactively.
Oh also. Vyvanse makes me poo like clockwork an hour after I take it. So if that happens to you, make sure you time it well.
