Here is an article on the race from the Eugene paper:
http://registerguard.com/rg/sports/32303117-81/symmonds-friends-give-him-the-push-he-needs.html.csp#
Symmonds was happy with the time, saying, "“I haven’t raced in about six months, so to come out here and run right at 1:50, it was well, well faster than I thought I could run right now.”
We think it was his first race since World Indoors in March.

Ok, answer this. Why not?
Why do humans do lots of things? Go the moon, run marathons, etc.

PS. It was a new WR for the road.

Wheating*
Sorry, phone corrected that.
WTF with the women's results? Did they take a wrong turn, or was it a highly tactical race?
I like the idea and growing popularity of road miles - road 800s sound even better.

It's a 3rd annual race so your question is a bit outdated. Also, the women's times are slow because there really wasn't any elite women there.
NO elites?
Kipyego?!!!!
REID!?!?!?!
quite being so stupid, stupid.

Dude, they were there but didn't run the elite race. They ran a centipede race in 2:30ish. That's the reason their times are so close to each other. I was there...stoopid.

god i have a hard time believing that put in any type of competitive situation that those guys could run that slow on purpose...that's slower than tempo run pace for them when 100% fit.

Why would a man rise before dawn to fish for salmon on Scotland's River Tweed? Why, indeed.

I think this was similar to the women's race. It must have been some kind of run while connected group thing. The identical teams lead to this idea too. Centipede, or whatever they call it.
Can someone please explain to me why these times are all over the place?
Nick at 1:51, but Mulder at 1:59
Then the women 2:27-2:30's
And the more elite men 2:17, 2:27-2:30's, this doesn't make any sense...

Perhaps the slow time were caused by a gummed-up track
Centipede race.
There was a pro bike race in my city- they went around a 1 kilometer, two block area- the people loved it. Right in downtown.
Other things going on- 5K running race, cross fit competition.
I was thinking some races- sprints, 400, 800, mile and maybe a shot put and High Jump competition would be cool.
