Not to be sexist but this is just the opinion of some frustrated hormonal bitch, who hasn't had any since her boyfriend's condom broke and is now confronted by the prospect of a human being ripping open her birth canal then leeching away her life savings, while telling everyone he knows that he hates her. Or it could be a girl.

The author never mentions sexism. Her argument was that it's rude to ask personal questions of people you don't know well (or to ask to rub their bellies), even if they're pregnant. Seems reasonable to me, although the conversation white list/black list is a reach.

I don't really understand why she's shameful of her big belly though.

"When are you due?" is perfectly reasonable.

"You are getting huge...you must be due soon, right?" would be inappropriate

Regardless of what question you ask, you should never ask it unless the woman has clearly stated she is pregnant. Nothing more awkward than asking 'when are you due' and the woman responding 'I'm not pregnant'.

That's also why it's considered bad manners to tell a woman "hey, you're really packing on the pounds lardo!" because occasionally they're just pregnant.

It's not like pregnancy is some embarrassing medical condition. When you ask when someone is due, you're just making small talk over an obvious trait. If I'm pulling rolling luggage and carrying a plane ticket in my hand, a friendly stranger might ask me where I'm headed. If I am wearing a sweatshirt that indicates that I attended a particular university, someone might use that as a way to start a conversation. If I was female and was clearly carrying a child inside of me, someone might use that as an icebreaker as well. I am an introvert who doesn't particularly enjoy conversing with strangers myself, and even I wouldn't find any of these things to be offensive.

Is it rude to ask how old a woman's young child is? If not, what is the difference? In one case you are asking when she will have her baby. In the other case, you are asking when she had her baby. You are requesting the same information, just at a different time. So should we add "how old is your baby" to the list of rude questions as well? Is that equally personal?

I would find that offensive were I a woman.

Don't EVER ask a woman when she is due.....unless you already know for sure she is pregnant. Women can be so fat these days that she may not be pregnant at all. So just don't ask....let her volunteer the information.

Not sure about "can I touch your belly?" - depends on how well you know her! Might seem a bit odd if it's a stranger.

Worst kind of blogspam, happens on a lot of sites. It doesn't matter whether what you say is true, or if it's totally idiotic. If it generates "outrage", it gets clicks, which means cash for the writer.

By posting this here, all you are doing is subsidizing the author of this garbage, and encouraging others like her.

My pregnant wife actually likes the "when are you due" questions because it gives her a reason to talk about our baby and how excited she is. That said, she HATES it when people try or ask to touch her belly. It's an invasion of space and she wants nothing to do with it.

I suppose someone who isn't excited to have the child would mind the "when are you due" question because it's an unwanted child. So maybe that's the line you have to draw?

If you know when it's due you can work out when it was conceived.

"Oh, it's due on July 31st. That means you conceived on November 5th. Hold on, your husband and I were at a conference in Vegas that weekend."

There are many silly articles on Huffington. Just as there are many silly articles on Yahoo, and cnn, and fox, and...

See, they have to fill space so they can sell advertising and in order fill space so they sell advertising they have to write stuff...lots of stuff. And sometimes the stuff they write is somewhat silly because, well, let's face it, sometimes life is boring.

This is sexist. Not sure about asking somebody when her due date is. I guess it depends on context.
