My coach is deciding who to bring to sectionals and he said me and another kid named dom are both tied for the last spot. So, as a tie breaker of sorts he said he will take whoever wins the two mile time trial friday to sectionals. Dom starts medium with a fast middle and kick. what strategies should i use to win?
Slip a Mickey into his sports drink.
perhaps go out hard, which he's not used to, then slow the middle down and have him take the lead where he'll tire out eventually due to the quick start then since he has a kick, try to beat the legs out of him in the last 800 by making a gradual surge
Run faster than him
Negative split each quarter.
Alternate laps of 70 seconds and 80 seconds. Pretty soon you will both be BURNINGG but you will have kicked the kick out of him and since you have been dictating the pace he will be more exhausted than you. The only con to this approach is that you probably won't be friends after this race.
Run just behind him the whole time no matter what he does. Then pass him at the end.
Hmm.. since you said he has a fast kick (I'm assuming faster than yours, otherwise you wouldn't be worrying about that), I think it would be wise to drop him before it gets down to the last quarter.
