On paper what they did this year at the Rocky Mountain

Shootout can hardly be believed. At first I wondered if the

timing had gotten screwed up somehow but apparently not.

Although Ben Sarael was not their number one in the race that was not a surprise. The only race he led the Buffs last year was at the NCAA Champ. meet.

Anyone in their top five could be their number one runner in a given race. They may not have a Torres, Ritz or Goucher on this team but they have an entire group that would be right on any one of those runners heels.

How old are you? You've only heard of Saarel?

All of these kids in the top 7 can be the number 1 any given day. You know nothing. And if you think for a second this isn't the best Colorado team in history, you are a moron.

Yeah, I'm not sure how replacing one of your team's runners with a national champion could possibly make the team worse.

Just wanted to make sure the context of what the Buffs (specifically captain Theroux) are I believe saying-

1) I think some may not be catching he said best Buff team ever- not comparing them to any other school.

2) They are treating it like a pure team sport, and in team sports, it's just/ all about winning.

3) Given that team and winning is all that counts approach, even if CU wins with the worse point total in NCAA history, they will be the 1st Buff team to win back to back, so will be the greatest.

The 2014 Buffaloes are the deepest team in school history, no question asked. The only question is if they can match some of their star squads up top and you have to think Hurycz, Saarel, Theroux, Pearson and Morgan can all challenge for top 25 with a few of those guys challenging for top 10. It's a pretty legit squad and maybe the best we've seen since the dominating Stanford days. Clearly there is a lot of season left to be run, and tons can happen, but this squad is so confident and is putting in the work.

I think part of it depends on what do you define as 'greatest ever'. Collegiate running right now is so much faster than it was 10 years ago I'd be very surprised, even not researching it, if a top team now wouldn't beat a top team 10 years ago.

But some might say a team from 10 years ago with multiple NCAA scorers is 'better' at least relative to competition than a current team.

Colorado is deep. They had seven guys break 14:00 last year and another run 29:01.

Bosshard ran 13:38 last year at USAs. Zach Perrin ran a 3:42 1500 as a true freshman. You can throw in a 9:00 steeple from another true freshman, Adam Peterman. Both redshirted. The team had 10 guys who could have broken 14:00.

Not that last years track times matter all that much, but the point is the team is DEEP.

Bosshard is like 30 years old. No way he still has eligibility. Check the CU roster he's not on there at all.

In reply to what I think the original poster was asking, last year the Buffs placed:

-Ben Saarel - 8th

-Morgan Pearson - 17th

-Blake Theroux - 23rd

-Pierce Murphy - 39th

-Ammar Moussa - 95th

-Zach Perrin - 108th

-Connor Winter - 178th

Looking at those results, you can take away a few things. Saarel, Pearson, Theroux and Murphy are all legitimate top 20 threats, really in no particular order. Add in Jake Hursyz who redshirted last year but finished 32nd in 2012 and that rounds out Colorado's top 5 with another potential top 20 runner.

Also, I think most people will agree that for whatever reason Moussa and Winter were huge disappointments last year with their performances. Moussa was 30 places higher in 2011 as a true freshman and Winter was over 100 places higher in 2012. Based on limited performances this year it's safe to say that CU's top 5 can all be top 20 and their top 7 can all be top 40 or 50. That's why people marvel at their depth.

I do think it's a legitimate question to ask if they can be beaten though. It's possible that Stanford could have 4 in the top 15 and maybe place a 5th runner around 40th or so. Pac 12 championships will be a very interesting NCAA pre-view.

Zach Perrin will most likely be their alternate this year after finishing near 100th as a true freshman. Just a side note, Perrin was actually beaten by two not very highly recruited CU true freshman at the Rocky Mountain Shootout. Ethan Gonzales and Ryan Forsyth both just ran 25:40 on the difficult CU home course. Wetmore keeps reloadng and he doesn't need "superstars" to do it!
