When I see a typical Major Leaguer either running down the first base line trying to beat out an infield hit or trying to score from second on a hit into the outfield, I often wonder how a well-trained distance runner would fare in the same situation. A good distance runner is obviously not trained for speed, but most of the major leaguers nowadays are so bulked up that I can't imagine they're running much, if at all, faster than a distance runner could.
Any thoughts?
