I agree with your first sentiment completely. She really is. But the general consensus is that her form is horrible, which is why it felt a little embarrassing to try to run like her. It makes me feel almost drunk like I'm flailing around, but it's a controlled flailing. It's weird, but awesome.

What general consensus are you talking about? The only videos I've seen of her form breaking down are of the last 100m of a marathon, waving to the crowd, excited before she breaks the tape.

She is a little taller than Shalane Flanagan, but takes a shorter stride length, with a faster cadence. An she consciously conserves energy throughout the marathon, without wastage, until the last stages when she starts racing.

I did a search to try and understand what you are talking about, and there are some video snippets of her, very very late in the stage of the marathon, and guys are trying to make a case analyzing her form from them.

There ARE some end-race videos of her with some attributes of pronounced lousy form. I don't doubt she is so shrewd that the pronounced crappy form caught on camera when she is alone, about to win the race, when she knows the cameras are watching, is a purposeful tactic to confuse her competitors that watch it later.

You should try and watch video of her long before that stage of the race, when she is in the pack, or has broken away and is racing.

I think some people just want to argue on this messageboard sometimes.

Here, watch her from the very beginning of the 2013 Great North Run. She doesn't really change her form the entire race. She may get a little bit looser at the end, but not in a bad way.

Here style is very distinctively different from the women around her. So are her results!

Do me a favor. In the Part 1 of 2 video you linked, first check out Jeptoo at 5:00-5:50 into the video. Then check out Jeptoo at 6:25 on into the video. One could think they are looking at a different runner.

I'm not sure what you mean. She attacked the Ethiopians and was on a downhill at 6:25 or so in, but other than that it's the same woman clearly with the same loping floppy looking stride. She's really phenomenal.

To further this exercise, see if you can find a goodly amount of Full marathon coverage (rather than the half). It may shed further light on what is going on in this Half.

I had a feeling there was some sort of misunderstanding. Rita has a very similar body and while she moves in the same basic fashion she is not quite as loose with her leg return. Both are crazy fast. In fact I could not run as fast as either if for some reason a lion was chasing me for a marathon, or even half a marathon.
