I came from a sedentary family in which everyone was overweight except rail thin me, and I was thin, of course, because I ran off everything I ate.
I'd show up for big family gatherings and I'd get razzed about being so skinny and hear fears about me being unhealthy. Then I'd ask them to pass the drumsticks. And the potatoes. And the corn and the broccoli and the bread. Then they stopped complaining about me. Then we had dessert.
Every time I go back to family for holidays they say, wow you're looking thin. Although my weight was the same as last time. I think it's just they're getting fatter and aren't use to seeing healthy people around. I just want to say and your getting fatter every time. I call this skinny shaming and notice it a lot in places where people in general aren't healthy.

Seriously? I've had this same thing happen to me, and I just reply with, "I think you look a little heavy." No more comments about me being too thin. Very few people in my family like me anymore though.
Then they're definitely wearing it. All the extra weight that overweight people carry literally hurts them in ways they won't admit. Doctors are concerned with receiving backlash from patients after telling bad news about obesity...so much so that they'll water down the truth and recommend walking off the mileage
Why do people lap up the leniency of family to openly criticize each other? I mean, there's a chance to be uniquely caring with people that close, but people choose to be uniquely abusive.

hahaha i've been a few beers deep at family gathering over the holidays and have been close to dropping this one on of my fat relatives who make comments...serious props if you actually did it.

It seems in this society today you are able to say someone is too thin, but unacceptable to say they are too fat

Maybe it's because hardly anyone is actually too thin. So when someone says you're too thin you know it's not true so it doesn't even matter. Whereas many people are too fat and they know it too. So they get mad or sad when told.
I've had overweight coworkers call me a bone rack, after I told them that the XXXL coveralls they bought for me were too big. My sister says it's like hugging a skeleton.
Then she's confided in my mom that she's jealous of how I can eat so much and be so thin.
No one wants to be fat. Remember this. People just want to feel justified in the way they live their lives, as usual..

I believe your relative poke fun at your for being skinny, that's a common theme for any decent runner.
I do not believe they give 2 shitz about your health when it's obvious they don't care about theirs.
