Nice $30,000 Win for Emma Coburn to End Season!

Missed the race cuz I was at church, but good to hear that Emma won! She's one of my favorites and its good to see Americans winning international races!

It's on YouTube, plus an interview. Her coach wasn't in Morocco so she took her boyfriend's advice not to push the pace as hard as usual. Said she had more "in the tank" at the end. Really a smart race - when she challenged at the end her African competitors fell apart. Diamond League champ Ayalew panicked as they went over the last barrier together, tripped, injured herself and staggered to the finish line in second.

Marrakech hosted the African Championships, too, and had no audience for that either. I mean, seriously empty stands. Wonder what they did to get hosting rights to either of these meets.

Well that's definitely sportsmanship after the race that you won't see from anyone under Salazar's wing. Nice to see Coburn sticking around to make sure Ayalew got medical attention. Props.

All this Marrakesh stuff has been a hot-weather survival contest. Mercy Cherono couldn't even break 16 at the African champs.

very strong performance from her all year but this shows the ability to win on a kick when she is not doing all the work.

Emma is such a class act! After her victory, a significant victory, she doesn't celebrate, but instead rushes to the aid of her nemesis, and genuinely give support and aid.

Ayalew didn't fall on the track at the finish. She crossed on her feet and a few seconds later carefully sat down.

Looked like she banged her knee on the last hurdle.

She didn't hit that barrier at all - she twisted her knee upon landing awkwardly. She doesn't exactly have textbook hurdling skills, mind you Jebet (as are a number of africans) is worse.

Uhhh, on further review, this IAAF article does indeed state Ayalew "clipped the last hurdle as they sprinted for the line."
