I’ve read that it takes about 10 days for the body to fully gain to benefits of a specific workout. How long prior to a race does a workout directly affect a race performance? For example, doing a 20-mile run 12 weeks prior to a marathon doesn’t seem to directly affect the race, but instead helps to prepare you for the 23-miler you do 6 weeks prior, which will in turn directly affect the race. How many weeks prior to a race do the workouts begin to affect the race directly, and does this time frame vary by workout type (LT, long run, etc.)?
