He has best of 8:05, I think. This guy I am thinking of is faster, but I am not certain he is fastest.
Here is hint of guy I am thinking of (not 100% certain he is all-time fastest) - he ran for a program that is football powerhouse.
Patrick Sang 8:03

you look at all-time bests by NCAA Steeplers, an interesting list:
Patrick Sang
Peter Koech
Evan Jager
Henry Rono
Any others?
Which steeplechase world recordholder went to college in America yet never ran the event for his/her alma mater?
Jager was never an NCAA steeplechaser.

Jager doesn't really count as an NCAA steepler does he?

I think you may be right ! I'm not sure, but it could be Grace Padilla. She held the world record in women's steeple, although it was before it was recognized event. And I don't know for sure if she ran for her alma mater or not.
