So who is the best coach if posters bash every one?

You forgot to bash Hansons and Warhurst.

Hansons blow, their overrated. Warhust recruits, doesnt coach.

This post raises an interesting issue - what constitutes a "good coach"? I've seen on numerous occasions that coaches that recruit well are sometimes bashed for this - ie Warhurst and Vandenbusche, but isn't part of coaching the recruiting aspect? You could have a great, for lack of a better description, XO's type individual in the head coach position, but if he can never recruit top-notch athletes, is the program ever going to be successful? Or should a "good coach" be judged predominantly by the ability to develop runners, regardless of talent? In other words, is one coach superior if they can take a bunch of 17-min high school 5k runners and turn them into 14:45-15-min material versus another whom "recruits" 14-min 5k runners and maybe they only improve marginally to 13:45-13:50? The later is certain to be more successful on the national scene, but didn't real further the development of runners recruited to the program. Enough rambling, any comments?

I hate to break it to you but.... recruiting in college is huge. You're not going to bring in a bunch of guys that can't handle your training or help you win on purpose. That doesn't mean that you aren't going to try to take some athletes that aren't as good and make them better. That happens all of the time, but many coaches jobs depend on how their team performs. Therefore they bring in athletes that can help them compete immediately.

Canova and Daniels are the best coaches in the world. But, I think that Brad Hudson is young, energetic, talented and in time will be among the greats.

I agree, Canova is amazing. Daniels is fine. I have heard really good things about Hudson.

I agree 100%. To take an average highschooler and make him a decent runner (15:00-14:30/5k) who understands the principles of training and can on continue on his own with running after the college, is in my view far better coaching. Any idiot can "coach" 9:10-8:50 2miler to run 14:00-13:50 during college. The thing is, that the guy will almost certainly quit after graduation b/c is not good enough to make living out of it and is discouraged b/c he had much higher expectations during HS.

The best coach understands that your best years come in seasons AFTER the college. I have seen only few of these coaches in the U.S.

How about Peter Coe or Dr. Rossa?

1. Learn basic grammar. You don't have to be perfect but when you confuse the there/their/they're you look like an idiot and it almost always negates any good point you've made (which so far is 0). Just a reminder: you mean to say the Hansons blow because they are over-rated. This can be shortened to say Hansons blow, they're (contraction for they are) over-rated.

2. I guess Coach K (not gonna try to spell that name) must also suck as a coach as well. I mean, he only wins all the time because he gets great players--not because he can coach. By this logic Bob Knight has to be the best coach ever because he squeezes every drop of talent out of his players (and even throws chairs if his hands don't squeeze hard enough.)

By the way, I'm the best coach ever. Experimental data has shown that no other coach can produce the same results in me.

All three of those coaches are just okay, nothing special.

That is Daniels, Canova, and Hudson.

Canova isn't Baldini's coach!

This guys knows his stuff don't mess with him.

Arkansas' Coach McDonnell is the best coach based on every criteria you can think of.
