Come on, 105 miles and the mileage continues to increase. This is solid high mileage training, perhaps not "very big", whatever that means, but high for sure.

Always less than 90 miles, in the 70-80 miles range, would be worth an article.

It's difficult to believe anything Kara says. She exaggerates so often and backtracks after the fact. Everything her current coach does is perfect for her then 12 months later the excuses come as to why the coaching didn't cause her to succeed. She did the same thing with Wetmore how many years ago? I wish her the best but unlike Shalane or Desi, I always feel Kara is telling us all self-delusional half-lies.

Lisa Rainsberger did the same thing when she was 35+ which is:

She started preaching lower mileage when she realized she could do so much more on less miles. Only problem with this is in both cases they have already done the many years of high mileage and built their aerobic capacity. Now they are maintaining it with a moderate amount of training instead of trying to increase it.

Come on, guys. She is just collecting checks at this point based on her popularity, not competing for the win. Nothing wrong with that, because do it if you can.

There's more then way to trash your legs. High mileage is one. Lower mileage, but faster pace is another.

105 mpw is NOT low mileage.

At age 36 real recovery becomes the most important element in her training.

We'll see if she can achieve that goal.

Or Geb and Lagat 2, time millions. Actually, wait a bit on Lagat. I've seen many a great open runner lose the spark once they hit the senior circuit and began to line up for lower key races. The drop off can be drastic.

Also you didn't mention Lisa had all those years in the pool that didn't beat her body up. I bet Kara has a lot more lifetime miles at the same age as Lisa. Not sure it's a 1:1 comparison.

Lydiard training doesn't necessarily mean high mileage. Plus, I think "high mileage" is relative based on the individual.

To Run With the Buffaloes introduced me to high mileage training. Pretty sure he is a high mileage guy only thing I could see being a lil less is how he doesn't do doubles.

I am sure she's doing 90-100 mile weeks. Jerry is known to push them up to 125mpw for periods of time during marathon training, which is fine, but not everyone could sustain that for longer than 3-4 weeks without becoming stale. I believe it's smart for her to get that snap back in her legs in training. That's what makes training fun. Maybe during the next cycle of training she can bump it up a few weeks.

You guys are misinterpreting. Wetmore doesn't believe that there is such a thing as high mileage. Miles are miles, and he likes a lot of them.

Not in great shape? Aiming for 2:26-2:29 when her NY PR is 2:25:53? The difference between 2:26:05 and 2:25:53 is taking a stutter step to blow a snot rocket. 2:29 vs. 2:26 is wind, cold, pacing of others, etc.

Yeah, 105 mpw is not low mileage by any definition. That's solid quality mileage after recently coming off an injury plagued point in her career (15 months!). More power to her if she pulls off her goal time, wish her well.

Lol, if Geb could still drop a 12:39 or Lagat a 3:26 that might be accurate.
