Looks like the Flo gang just got a huge infusion of cash and most likely a new boss (big ownership stake).
Maybe they'll bring down the monthly price of their FloPro feature now.

Yes, the second they get a big loan they're going to charge less for their service.
Most likely they will take the infusion of cash to expand the company: hire more employees, supply more frequent content, film more workouts, provide live coverage of more races, maybe even show live workouts weekly like "Galen Rupp crushing 20x400 in 58-59 with 1 min rest at 930am Tuesday".

Dude have you been to a college track meet? Been to NCAAs? No one goes. Why in god's name would they want to pay some jerk $20 a month to watch it?
Plus the conference networks, SEC, Big 10, etc will start locking up the meets.
Flos only hope is the tv networks care so little about the remnants that track would provide that they either pay flotrack to do it or just let them have it.
Think about it, it would be pain in the butt for the big 10 network find the right announcers to broadcast one track meet a year so maybe flotrack becomes sort of a production company for track.
Actually, the more i think about it that's basically what they are now. They basically broadcast meets for colleges who don't want to bother. With money, they can probably buy some tv trucks and do it for the networks.
No one actually wakes up each day and thinks, "I need to go to flotrack today". They just end up being forced to pay them the one time a year they have a meet they want to watch and then get hooked into a subscription.
seems to me flotrack isn't about webcasting meets - maybe a few big ones, but they seem more focused on features and interviews - they seem to have put some serious effort into their 'driven' series.
that's probably the bet - that a combo of meets + interviews + features will attract a subscription base and run junkie will bring in non payers for clicks.
then there is the sponsored content - brooks seems to pay them money to feature their people.
Flotrack is just part of the company. FloElite.com is another offshoot that will capture market share. You want wrestling, it's flowrestling, 10 and climbing to 20 a year in rev's soon. Employees went from 40 to 60 during the summer. Its all about growth, revenue projections and the exit strategy.
You didn't specify US dollars. $8M Argentinian is a little less than $1M US. Not sure if there are other weak currencies that use the $ sign.

It isn't a loan, it is an ownership stake, that is why they use the term capital.

Guess that mean's they are unprofitable?
It means they have huge moneymaking potential... if they can get a few thousand Flotrack Pro subscribers they could definitely make enough profit to justify that $8M value.
LetsRun has tons of videos but does it have that kind of potential to make money? Probably not if you're only relying on ads.

10 what? Not million, that's for sure. Yes, their track platform isn't their most popular, but there is no way in hell they make $10M.
They've got at least 60 mouths to feed plus a lot of hard and soft business costs. I just don't see how $8M is that much considering they have several people on staff requiring more than $100k salary per year. I am guessing operations alone cost the company about $1.6M per year.
I agree with rojo and don't want to misconstrue this as a sign of profitability for the company. I see it only as a guarantee that the company lives on for another 4-5 years.
They were not GIVEN this money, people.
Someone is now going to offer you that money. There are a lot of rich people out there Rojo. Don't sell your baby. But please tell us about it if the offer comes up.

LetsRun.com - profitable from day 1!

PS. Actually never mind. We have it all wrong. I'm going to call Weldon. We should become unprofitable so we can get $8 million.
Investment bankers who find this page via google who know nothing about LetsRun.com, please realize our traffic is twice that of flotrack and we'll sell 100% of the website within 24 hours for 8 million. You can have it all - not just a part and I'll work for you for free for a year.
Please email me at
robertjohnson@letsrun.comor call us via the contact page and the site will be yours by Monday.
PPS. Does this mean their employees will now get to say in hotels on the road instead of couches?
They have people who are paid? I thought flotrack was a T&F club.

Rojo, I thought we were tight. Why are you selling us out?
It looks like a buyout, that's all. My guess is the buyer will fold in the server code, liquidate assets, payoff debts, and shut down FT.
Who the heck at FloTrack makes $100k a year?
8 years old indicates that it's a family run business. Such a miniscule $8M deal for an 8 year old company means someone is purchasing the technology only and closing the company itself. Florian is essentially moving on with his life.

Seriously, please don't sell. The world is already too corporate.
LetsRun.com is bare-bones and authentic. Hopefully people haven't taken u for granted. You guys deserve props. How many people work for LetsRun? A handful? And yet this place is way better than was 60 flotrack employees do a year.
Seriously, can you believe how many people work at the company?
More than 60:
http://flocasts.com/LOL.
I guess wrestling and gymnastics must be big.

I like Flotrack, though I rarely visit them any more. What they're doing is great and admirable, but something like letsrun is obviously a much better way to make money. How much does it cost to manage a messageboard and write a few articles here and there? Not much. Far less than sending people all over the world and putting together tons of videos. This site pretty much runs itself and is THE go to running site. Flotrack requires a ton of work and isn't really something you visit every day (in my opinion). I hope they make money and continue being present in the running world, but truth is, distance running just isn't that popular.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
