Mostly the New Balance naming/numbering system is pretty clear for spikes: NB 800 for the 800, 5000 for the 5000.
But what do you prefer for the 1500, or the steeplechase? I am am 800/1500 guy who likes to work on strength with road 5ks in the late summer and fall.
I like the vibram five fingers for track workouts and hoka's for base building. I only wear NB on raceday for sponsors.
Most of the New Balance athletes I've seen racing wear the 800 for 1500m and 5000 for the steeplechase. I hope this helps you.
Yeah you're right, the 5000 is excellent for the steeple. However I don't like the 800 for 1500, their build demand too much power from your legs and I think that's why Brenda hasn't done too well in the 15 this year
Go with your nike victorys for 15 and 3k flat

I don't think I'd ever wear a Nike show.
I can see how a true specialist 800 shoe would be too aggressive for a 1500, but I thought Jenny Simpson actually races in the NB 6000.
Maybe she will let me know.
Jenny wears the 5000 for all her races.
Brenda wears the 800.
Either shoe would work, it's just personal preference. Some people prefer a more aggressive spike, some don't. Both are excellent options though.

Jenny Simpson is the best 1500 runner in the world, wearing the NB 800, right? Right?
My shoes are actually Nike spikes that are painted to look like NB spikes. It takes a keen eye to spot.
I love the 800. You should run the 800 too and wear the 800 too. 800 ftw

I actually wear my spikes on the road too. I figure if they give me more traction on the track, they'll give me more traction on the roads, right?

RC1600 is a nice lightweight flat. Most of my teammates wear them for workouts/road races.

I'm a pro for New Balance and I made the olympic trials in the 800m. I prefer the 800 for the 800m. I was really good though, I wouldn't recommend everyone to try and run in what I run in.

the 5000 (the flat, not the spike). Practically unparalleled from a weight perspective. Upper limit of 10k probably, unless you are super efficient (and like 85 pounds). Otherwise, the 1600 is a great shoe too.
