Malware Warning on LetsRun.com

The malware warning is gone here...

Hey Google! That ain't malware, that's just letsrun.com.

That's weird. I just got a warning that said, "It appears you are trying to access 1999. Press Cancel to return to the present day internet."

The 1999 update was when they added this comment to the search function:

If you all switched to linux you wouldn't have to worry about ridiculous things like your PC being taken over by code from some website.

it only happened when i clicked on the Poland 800 link.

after about 30 minutes I clicked on it and there was no warning.

I don't see any ads, I use adblock, which is a perfectly safe app, which you can get from Chrome Extensions.

Bring back Fortran!

This page has 15 blocked ads. USAToday only has 3....tells you something, I think. All these posts are making someone a pretty good paycheck....:-)

ah, USA today's page is horrid, just horrid. USA Today needs to be boycotted by the United Nations, simply because of their abominable website design

I respect Letsrun; have been coming here for 10+ years and don't see that changing anytime!

It's still not hard to design malware for Linux systems for people who don't install the latest updates all the time (most people), it's just not done very often because fewer people have Linux. At least toward the general public. I'm sure it's done all the time on the government and industry scale.

And I say that as a Ubuntu user. I've (legally, academically) broken into plenty of Linux systems. One of the ways that I did this was by getting my opponents to visit a malicious website which then gave me root access. It's definitely better than Windows but that doesn't make you immune to malware.

Chrome gave me a warning yesterday that letsrun.com was a suspected malware site. I allowed a bypass since I know the site. Now I have popups everywhere, funky browser fuctionality.

I made screenshots before allowing the bypass.

The chrome message said an adv for 12weekstoretirement.com/ was suspicious and probably the malware carrier.

The ad was hosted on AS36351 (SOFTLAYER)

I'm being told by the pop ad to call 844.839.7975. I have a screenshot of this too.

What I would like to know, is how do I disinfect my computer now? I'm running a MacBook Pro 10.8.6.

Suffice it to say, this is very inconvenient!

Just double checked. The security popup warning came while using Firefox. The pop asking me to call presents itself while using Chrome.

The one that gets me is the autoplay of video on every damn page. I watched Mary Cain win the 3000 a couple of times already, I don't need to see it 500 times, with audio, every time I come here.

were they servers, or desktops? A desktop user has to be pretty dumb for this to happen.
