I'm 25 and my beard, though decent, is less than impressive. I cannot grow a thick mustache or mountain-man type beard at all, which is kind of depressing. I'm wondering if I can expect my beard to continue to get fuller and thicker over the next 5 years or so or if this is it. What has been your experience?

yes. my beard at 25 was weak. in my late 30s i can pull off a good beard or goatee if i want to. shave frequently.

While this is certainly good advice for the facial-hair challenged, I hope you're not suggesting that it will have an effect on how thick his beard is.
To OP, your beard will tend to get thicker as you age through your thirties, but that's no guarantee. It may still be uneven or patchy. It may get thicker but go grey instead. Some men can grow a good beard by 20; some men by 30; some men never.
The best advice I can give is this: don't rock it if you don't got it.
I'm 26 and still can't grow anything better than what an average highschool junior can. However, it is very gradually growing in and getting thicker. You're certainly not done.
Any hockey fan can tell you that players in their 30s grow much better facial hair than themselves when they were in their 20s.
It will get thicker up until about mid 30s. If it's not happening by then you can always go the route of the hipster style pubic hair to face implants.

If you want to stimulate your beard growth, move to a cold place. Me and my older brother don't grow very good beards, although mine is a little better than his. Our younger brother lived in Buffalo for 4 years and has a very good beard. I'm pretty sure it is the cold weather because other than the beard, he looks just like me and my older brother, so I don't think he got the magic good beard gene.
Katie Holmes sure got fuller and thicker past age 25.

Just take a look at all of those guys around you with nice beard...take a close look at their receding hairlines. Would you rather have a beard now or hair on your head later?

thickest and fastest my facial hair ever grew was when i broke my jaw and was on a liquid diet for a while - drank/ate lots of jello. with all that gelatin and my hair and nails grew like crazy

Hahaha, seriously I have had a patchy beard my whole life. In high school I could only grow a shaggy like goatee. In my early to mid 20's I could only grow a thin line beard. In my 30's my goatee looked like Grizzly Adams but my full beard looked like the high school guys that could grow a marginal beard and thought it looked good(picture Bill Walton with the Portland Trail Blazers). To be honest I wish I was still facially challenged like in high school.....
Good News! After 25, as the hair on your head dwindles, your beard, the hair on your back, and in your ears starts to grow like a forest.

I agree that its difficult to maintain the growth of beard to the specific age. Even though you are not too old that you cannot have a healthy and a well styled beard and a moustache. I have the same thing but my beard isn't thick. I really don't let grow much past the George Michael stage as it looks to sparse. Funny thing but in my family I probably have the lightest beard. My father has a thick beard and chest but has hairless legs. So body hair growth is bizarre.
