I've seen many go 48 for the first lap, but never a 47... has anyone ever done this?
for great I mean either medal in the competition, like Alfred Kipketer 1:48 ~48 low 59 high or run an impressive time like Wilson Kipketer 1:41 ~48 low 52 high

Ask and you shall receive - I'm sure Alfred Kipketer would be open to going sub-48 on his first lap and "crawling" home in 60.
michael johnson once did a 60 second celebration lap following a 43 second 400
for a 1:43 800
No.
Memory can be a bit fuzzy, but I swear I remember watching Earl Jones open in 48 on an indoor 200m track at Eastern Michigan in the mid-80s and finish in 1:48. 48 indoors on a flat 200m track has to be equivalent effort to 47 outdoors.
"Has anyone ever gone 47 for the first lap and still ran a great 800m?"
Has anyone ever...run...?
Alfred Kipketer probably...
Gray?
Jones?
Interesting question, maybe those athletes mentioned above, but I don't remember even of a rabbit going 47 for the first lap.
