I'm an incoming high school junior who trains year round for track and cross country. In the past 3 weeks I've started feeling pain upon touching the part of my fibula approximately 5 inches up from the ankle bone. In addition during my runs I'm feeling pain on the outer side of my shin directly under where my bone hurts. The area where the bone hurts rarely hurts during runs. I've done the hop test and passed it in the past but about 5 days ago I started to feel a twinge of pain so I stopped running for 3 days, and I am still resting.
The pain on my bone has actually disappeared within 2 days, but I still get pain on the side of my shin when I do the hop test.
The pain has come and gone in the past, and I've even run 5 miles straight on it without it giving me any problems at all. Actually at that time I felt that it had resolved itself. In addition even though I've been ramping up the miles, I feel it has only gotten mildly worse in the past few weeks.
It's worth mentioning I'm coming back from achilles tendonitis that kept me out for two months, so I'm not eager to be out for another two months. I figure a fibula stress fracture is more common in runners coming off another injury, because of added strain to other parts of the leg.
Any advice or suggestions?? Does this look like a stress fracture to anyone?? Pleaaasssseeee help!!
