Hey knucklehead, nothing is wrong with her. She's an amazing runner. And great looking to boot.
She was a lot closer to Joanie than to Hudfle.,is she still running for Nike?
The 2010 Quad-City Times Bix 7 champion said she is just starting to recover from fatigue issues that have plagued her for the past year.
My guess- she's recovering from fatigue issues. But that's just a wild stab in the dark.
She hasn't run well in a long time, even dating back to Schumacher. Something's not right there. Doesn't run well in Portland, moves back to Iowa to be with her people, still doesn't run well there.

from the Dave Smith >< Schumacher curse.
Yeah, she was cursed right on to the Olympic team.

First hard workout after suffering from fatigue issues dating back to 2013 and early 2014.
She looked like the next Shalane Flanagan coming out of college. Clearly, she has faced health issues and been unable to train/recover properly.
Who is coaching her now. Her college coach went to Boise State correct. Why is she fatigued? She was enrolled in vet school, running NCAA's when she made the team. A life of just running is a negative for some.

Fatigue = Doesn't feel like running a lot or training hard.
Based on her interviews in the past, that's the sense I've always got from Uhl. She left Schumacher because life was all about running there and it was a ton of hard training.
That kind of life isn't for everyone, but it got her to the Olympics in 2012. I don't see her making it back in 2016 though with the path she has chosen.
We're talking about a girl who ran 31:18 in college. She's not lazy or objectionable to hard work. Something's messed up—maybe she got serious overtraining issues, maybe she had a long-standing viral illness that lead to burnout, or maybe she's got some sort of dietary intolerance. Who knows. But something isn't right here. I hope her coach, whoever it is, can get on top of it soon.
Not everyone makes a successful jump from college running to professional. This could be true for her as well.
It's not like she isn't improving. That's plenty common. She is running EXTREMELY poorly. Ran 5:50 pace for a half in June, can barely run sub-6 min pace in a 7mi race in July? When she was in peak shape in college she could do her freakin TRAINING RUNS at the pace she ran at Bix.
but how can she say she wants to compete for one of the top spots at... 5:56 pace?! That almost sounds delusional. I agree, something is up-- maybe her overtraining is so severe she won't bounce back. There's unfortunately been plenty of that, seems especially with females. I hope she can bounce back, don't get me wrong, but she has a long road ahead of her.
I too felt the interview came off as delusional. I'm assuming she didn't move with her college coach. So sad. I wonder if she can still finish vet school? It might be something to do while she regains fitness.
She is in fact still training with her college coach Corey Ihmels who left Iowa State for Boise State. She is still based in Des Moines but Corey still coaches her. She went back to training with Corey a couple of years ago when she left the Portland group. I have seen her around the Iowa State campus and running with the ISU women but the new coach is definitely not coaching her.
She may have accomplished everything she wanted to in running and is losing/lost the fire to destroy herself in training. I'm sure she dreams of being an Olympic medalist but Olympian is the highest playing field and most don't even make it there.
Sometimes people continue to do things because that is what they've been doing. It can be a hard cycle to break and realize that it is time to move onto another challenge.
Not saying that is the case but it may very well be.
Honestly she hasnt seemed happy for a while. Just seems her hear isnt in it anymore and that okay. Running circles around a track for a living and running 80-100 miles a week while getting paid little is not the ideal life for everyone. I think she continues to run because she feels she is obligated to to please others or she is deluding herself to think she wants this. At least she has fall back option, she only has 2 years of vet school left and vets can make 95-100k a year.
