Solinsky 13.50 at 5000m

Solinsky is not a sub 27 guy anymore. I think he would be happy with a 2:12 debut. 13:50 is a solid effort for the form he's shown in other recent races.

For quite some time Solinsky has been WAY off of anything that he used to be able to do. Comparisons to Ritz in peak form are absurd at best, moronic at worst, and at the very least completely irrelevant. Like another poster said, I bet that Solinsky would be very happy with a 2:12 for his debut.

Oh, and if we are going to get into irrelevant Ritz comparisons, how about this one - Ritz marathon debut = 2:14. There, doesn't that feel very relevant?

I say he enters one marathon, collects a nice appearance fee off his history and name, bonks to run around 2:18 and doesn't run the marathon again.

I used 2:12 as that was what the previous poster had said that Solinsky would be disappointed with (which he wouldn't).

While I think he will have the fitness to run 2:12, I don't think he will put it together and would bet on your prediction before I bet on him having a good race.

A pure endurance runner can go sub 2:10 with high-13 credentials. Look at all of our marathoners in the 70's and 80's; except for Salazar & Shorter, most were awful at the short stuff.

No, Ritz ran the 2009 London Marathon.

Solinsky had a 4 month stretch where he was world class. That's 4 months longer than me, so am not hating on the guy, but going to Europe to run a 13:50 to remember how to suffer? That is just total BS. I think he's mostly trying to convince himself he still has it.

Solinsky looks just like the bigger cyclists of the 1990s and early 2000s that were using epo and/or blood doping. I really want to believe he ran that fast without the oxygen vector drugs because I have the same body type, but I'm not buying it.

He may be world class without drugs, but his only chance of that is in the 800 where he can use his anaerobic capacity. Of course the 800 is not even on his radar so it's not going to happen. To think he'll be competitive in the marathon is insane. He's milking it or totally insane.

Solinsky is making progress. He has certainly improved since running a 29:05 in Portland in May. This obviously is not a race that he has trained for and scheduled himself to peak at. He has a long way to go in his come back. I don't think people understand just how devastating an injury he had and what it will take for him to get back his form.

It is good that he is out there racing instead of piling up miles at altitude. He needs to get back to where he was just before is big season (13:20-30 5k; 27:30 10k) just so he has the confidence to push himself in the marathon. We will never see the 12:55 Solinsky again, but could be surprised in the marathon.

In the B heat of this 5000 m, what's the story with all the "DIS" (presumably disqualification) entries in the results? Did a bar room brawl break out in the lead pack? Did have the field think they were in the steeplechase and cut through the infield?

They cut the line too early the first 100m apparently.

Oh really? OBVIOUSLY he isn´t in sub 27 shape anymore, because he was over 20 seconds behind his calculated 5k SPLIT time of the 26.59 10k. So I don´t think that he´s happy with 13.50 5k.

Anyone who bothered watching that interview would have the answer on why he isn't running as fast as last year. Stop asking that over and over again and try educating yourselves you numbskulls. He didn't run anything faster than 4:40 going into the European circuit. Definitely is not track focused work is it you pompous know it alls?
