Knowing she's in 9:11 3k steeple shape makes me think she could have gotten somewhere around 4:03, and even she mentioned in an interview she thought she was in around that shape... I think this just goes to show how good of form she has in the steeple because that's probably worth around a 8:38 in the 3k... Only 33 seconds for slowing down for steeples is very solid... I'd like to see her race a couple more 1500's this season, maybe in one of the last 4 DL Meets!!

I agree w/ OP, her potential is more around 4:03 and I think that fits 9:11 a little more
Emma can still improve, I'd like to see her top 5 all time and get closer to the AR, if she wants a 9:05 then she's going to need to get that 1500m down to at least 4:00-4:01, she can do it though, that WetmoreFactor

I wish there was just more 3k's she could get it... I know she's better at 3k steeple cause of her form, but if she gets her 1500m down could she not threaten the AR? Same for Jenny Simpson, she's an endurance based 1500m runner and has a few 5k's under her belt...
All the times were slow today, except the Nicole Bush's 9:24. Seemed to be hot and a bit windy. I have no doubt she can run 4:02 under better conditions.

Its a decent result for her. Seems like she has run quite a few races since the heats at the US championships, two steeples in Europe (including the American record:)) and now a 1500. Thats quite a few races in a short period of time. Probably needs a little time off.
Kilian could beat that after a couple of weeks of doing strides to sharpen up.

That's the thing about LRC though, we care about Emma running a 4:05 more than Nicole Bush running a 9:24, but it's Emma...
Yeah, she's not racing too much, but the 3k steeple is a very demanding event on your legs
I would like to see more optimal temperates for her in 1500m, I think she can run 4:01, and if she was a full time 1500m trainer she could probably go 3:59

Emma has raced a ton in the last month. Big tough races on the world stage against the difficult East Afican contingency. 4:05 after all the big stuff ain't bad. I like the Wetmore strategy of training. Few if any early races and peak for the late summer. Should be fun to watch the second Euro session. I bet Emma has more in her tank by then. Hope she can get a 1500 or 3000 in somewhere. 4:02 / 8:45
A 4:05 is a decent time. However I think the 1500/steeple comparisons are a great reason why the barriers are too low in the women's race. A man running a 4:00-4:05 would not be expected to break 9:30 in the steeple. Just like the 100H, the steeple barriers are a joke and unfortunately will remain one because raising them would erase previous records. Too bad T&F thought so little of women when creating the events.
