If too many of you trained poorly. I can't imagine Hadd and RC's runners all blowing up at the end of their marathons.
nope didn't train poorly, and in fact ran the exact time I trained for (2:54). It just hurt like a bitch at the end.[
that is the race took an extremely sudden, sharp turn into my world of pain.
Dennis,
I was watching online and the server seemed to have problems updating at 30k, but was glad to see you finished. I had a similar experience at Chicago in 2002 (went through the 1/2 in 1:13 and DNF). Good work and keep plugging away for the next thon. How about River to River in the spring. Under 3 weeks until Marine Corps....
Things went really well for me. I was hoping to break 3 hours and optimistically shooting for under 2:58. I felt comfortable running faster than I expected and hit 13.1 at 1:28:17 and finished at 2:56:27. I finished with a 6 minute PR and felt great afterward.
I felt preety blah throughout the race...and I guess I didn't get enough fluids as I fought off cramps over the last 9 miles...finished in 3:24...
Hey guys...I was shooting for a 2:45-2:50, but ended up coming in at 3:01:52. Obviously, I'm not happy with the time, but it is a 22 minute PR over the only other marathon I've finished. I feel that eventually I can get it right. I had great pacing, going out very slow in 6:55 the first mile and through 1/2 way at 1:25, but it always gets so tough around the 20 mile mark. I am really gonna make an effort to get my mileage up over the winter and think that will help with strength at the end of the marathon. Anyway, congrats to those who ran and finished. It is a great feeling no matter what your time is.
Had a good run, 2:53. ran pretty even splits.
Feel better today but I was really sore on Monday.
Did anyone go to the post race party?
Mr. Utah Jamz Lee mills- grow up already. For the last year or two every time I post you end up coming back and posting shit about me. Look at the results, I finished, and ran 3:58, which I was very happy with (I wrote a summary of my race on dyestat). Grow up and get over whatever grudge you have against me, I've never even met you yet you constantly trash talk me. At least be mature enough to tell me who you are. I tried calling you out before, but of course you're too much of a pussy to do so
Probably saw and even met many of you 2:50 guys who might have been in the NB pacing group that fell apart after the half. Makes you appreciate how easy it feels when in a large, controlled group. Once we were out ahead on our own, you start doubting yourself and thinking too much. Tried to get mildly aggressive after 20m and did roll many people up but didn't realize they were rigging badly and I was only running 6:40s and even 6:50s as I passed them.
Anyway, just out for the steady long run as a finish to the base before Club Nats in December. At least I got interviewed on live TV and caught hell from Tim Hutchings at Kitty's afterwards !
Congrats to all of you.
Any 26.2 finished is an achievement and I CAN RELATE to hitting the wall; funny how those tales of pain and anguish make a better story than a good race, why is that?
Only those of us who've BEEN THERE know what it's really like.

What about the Gatorade at the Chinatown aid station? Doesn't anyone seem to realize that people get sick when it's mixed so sweet?
I was captain of one of the aid stations on Sunday. Each station had a representative from Gatorade there to assure that they were mixed correctly. We used to mix it weak but they put a stop to it. They also make it idiot proof. Two of those and one of these. Every station the same.
If you're used to drinking Gatorade, it was the same as out of the bottle at the store.
Was right on my 2:29 pace thru 19 miles. Slowed to 6:57 in mile 20 and realized it wasn't going to get better. Managed a couple near 8 miles there on out and finished in 3:05 and change. Considering my 1:22 1/2 marathon, I should have been significantly faster but learned alot on the way. This marathon thing is harder to master than the 5K or 10K. At least I know I have it or I don't. Anyways great crowd support and well organized for a race this size.
What??? 1:22 half marathon, and you say you were on 2:29 pace? Do you mean 2:49 is what you were aiming for?
2:59. Only ran about 50 miles a week avaerage. Knew I didn't have the mileage for much more than 2:56-7. My running and typing both suck.
GD-
I've had a couple of people tell me that my online tracking got messed up around that point. Who knows? I already know some things I would do differently, but hindsight is always 20/20. I'll be after it again. I'm definitely up for a River to River if we can get a team together. I hope we haven't missed the entry deadline...Anyway, good luck in 3 weeks. Hopefully, your race goes a bit better than mine.
JSI-
Sorry I don't remember you, but I don't remember much in the last miles of the race. I was in the black and white striped jersey, struggling to keep my head straight.
Congrats to everyone who went out and put out a good effort.
