Not sure if this is fair. But Greg Brock rips Rose Monday a new one. He claims Rose Monday had "no elite coaching experience". And he claims coach Monday played to Maggie's insecurities. Wow! Someone is very very bitter about the whole thing.

I just read the article and see no animosity on his part.
I'm glad he and Vessey have a good working relationship.
However, she definitely needs to lose a few pounds. -
There's some bitterness there. Another coach poached his athlete when she was at the top of her game. Kind of expected. Good to see him speak honestly unlike too many in the sport today.
I always kind of felt Vessey left on false promises and Monday was behind that positive drug test (that wasn't really positive). I think that coach deserves to have some darts thrown her way. If nothing else for bad mouthing a coach that took someone to a #1 ranking. -
The need to spread unsubstantiated gossip?

It always struck me as strange, her positive test, because Rose Monday was Regina Jacob's training partner. -
How would you feel if another coach stole 'your once in a lifetime athlete' halfway through your training program?
He took a runner with a history of injuries, kept her healthy and helped her become one of the fastest half milers in the world. In 2009 (I believe) she had the second fastest time in the world behind Caster Semenya (a female?)
She won two Diamond League races, got mono and switched coaches. If you watch a Flotrack interview with Rose Monday, she does everything but admit she wanted Maggie because she (Monday) thought Maggie was capable of getting the American Record.
Who knows what would have happened if Maggie had stayed with Greg Brock. My guess is that she would have at least made the Olympic team.
Brock coached to her strengths as a 400/800 runner, Monday as a 800/1500 runner. It's now fairly obvious Brock had the better approach.
I talked to Greg Brock at a few high school meets in Santa Cruz not long after the coaching switch and he was taking the high ground. I know if it was me I would have been bitter then, but he didn't seem to be.
I don't think he came across bitter in the interview. I was surprised he was as candid as he was. I would have had much more to say about Rose Monday. It was pretty sleazy what her and her associates did.
My guess is she approached Maggie, not Maggie approaching her. -
So Roeler is going to be coached by Monday?

Maybe they had a spat and Monday set up Jacobs, in addition to Vessey. -
Listen, Vessey gaining weight only is happening because of her age. She is working hard, but is getting flabby due to her age, not her work ethic.

An elite athlete has few precious years at the top. Stripping away personal feelings, I think it's fair to say Maggie didn't prosper during the 2 or 3 years she spent with Monday.
-
Roesler who is a present star and future superstar. I'm certainly crossing my fingers about this.

Hearing this makes me worried about Roeseler's future. Let's hope it works out better for her.

Rose has taken the classes for coaching education , traveled the world on USATF's nickel is very close to the sport , but as stated has not coached at the elite level.
Her heart is in the right place , her head has to catch up. -
agreed - she looks ridiculous out there between this and the get ups. how can you consider yourself a professional athlete, someone paid to perform and peak, and not have a dietary regiment for optimal results. It seems like the easiest part of the whole process.

The classes don't mean crap. I have a higher ed degree in one of the best EXSS programs (plus was pre-med as an undergrad and jumped into hard science research)- I got nothing out of the USATF education. It's for coaches who have no hard science background and need basic science knowledge to understand what they're doing (which unfortunately a majority do not).
I would say more practical knowledge and knowing the athlete and what works for them is what's important. Brock knew her as an athlete. Rose probably tried to work on endurance, and it didn't work. Maggie seems like someone who's a 'long sprinter'. All you do is stay consistent with the program that works and continue to develop. It's not rocket science. Glad to see her back with Brock. -
To J.R. and the SausageKING, who are you two to comment on someone's weight? Have you met her? Stood next to her? Do you have her dietary regimen? She is a true 400/800 runner. Tall sprint/middle distance build and strong. She looks great! As far as her coach goes, he used an interview with "loose cannon" gugala to air his discontent. That's on him.

At least he speaks his mind and everyone know who he is... Unlike here.

I was just researching Rose Monday and found this video of her and Maggie Vessey working on how to "improve your kick". Rose Monday said that in her 2001 World Championships 800m race she negative split in 70, then a 59. I looked up her time and it was 2:18.28 which means she ran her second lap in 68.2, not 59....so she exaggerates to make herself seem better than she was. Her open time in the 400 was 59.05 which placed her second at the same competition. Her comments were at the 1:17 mark of the video.
Correcting her memory, the Worlds are every other year, 1999 was England and 2001 was in Australia, where she won the 800. -
What's he got tosay about Ruby Tuesday?
