Is Jenny Simpson Changing the Women's 1500?

Absolutely, she's dictating a fast pace in every race. Coburn and Simpson are making their respective events fun to watch.

All I see is the fastest time won. Not sure how that's different from every footrace ever run. She's not changing anything.

I am serious. The original question was inane. Its a 1500m. Been run millions of times. Sometimes fast and sometimes slow.

She's not innovating racing. If she ran backwards or took walking breaks and won, that would be changing the 1500. Not simply changing the pace.

Fair enough.

It's fun to see her chase the American record. In most of these races people are running for place and won't push the pace because they are afraid of being outkicked. In Jenny and Emma's cases, since it is a non-championship year, they don't feel the need to focus their training on a fast last lap. They are focused on taking down records and are less concerned with place (but they are placing well in the meantime). I also like how Mark tries to limit the number of races they compete in as I think it keeps them fresh and will lengthen their careers.

Is she still taking those so-called "meds" for her thyroid problem?

She wasn't in either of the indoor races when both Genzebe and Aregawi lowered the previous indoor WR.

The 1500 is an event in which time alone is not always indicative of the quality of running. A slow tactical race can be more impressive and difficult than a faster one.

Actually yes. I think what Simpson and Coburn are doing is contagious. Molly Huddle's mile today was a wire-to-wire win. Year of the grinders.
