Holy sh!t... this is not a joke. I feel bad for Flynn... MBA and all, stuck in the downward spiral of working in a running store while training for the Olympics.
Totally sad and potentially could have been avoided. Ugh. Tough decision for the employer.
Just like any other crime, it's sad and could have been avoided. How? If he grew up and took responsibility for his own actions. Sadly he was not able to be a man. I do not feel bad for him at all.

How is it a tough decision for the employer?
What is most likely going to happen to him?

Do you feel the same about illegal immigrants?
Hmm , another developing athlete lost to a lack of a development system to bring them along. USTAF would rather spend funds on shoe company contracted elites vs developing athletes.
Typical D3 thug.
The guy is a criminal, a little too much sympathy on this thread.
Let's not forget he is innocent until proven guilty. Anyone can be charged with anything. Let the facts come out before you condemn him on one article behind a paywall. If he's guilty he will be punished but public opinion needs to pump the brakes.
Tough decision by the employer because I have had employees steal from me, and have handled it quietly without pressing charges as they were chasing their dreams.
However, not $5000 worth or as intricate as selling on eBay, but just grabbing a pair of shoes, etc. Worst was GPS theft, but once again, case by case basis.
Thief, criminal, etc. No sympathy, if he worked for you guys, he would steal from you as well.

You're talking about the court system. The kid knows if he did it or not. If he truly did steal five grand worth of stuff and sell it, it shows calculated, malicious intent. It wouldn't be a crime of passion, so to speak, but a well planned and organized plot. Think Dexter, instead of some dude who saw his girl kissing someone else, so he beat him up.

bull$hit. He knew good and well what he was doing it was wrong. He deserves to face the music.
A real shame. 2:13 is no joke for a non-D1 guy. He was obviously wrong to do it, but this comes from the fact that you can't make any money at that level of running.
Calling that embezzlement makes it sound like a sophisticated white collar crime. He was stealing merchandise and re-selling.
This is a little crushing for me. I saw Ricky win the 09 XC championships in a big upset. It was really inspiring for me at the time. Very disappointing if he is foudn guilty.

And yet most find a way to do it without stealing $5000 from their employers.

then grown the F up and get a real job.
I love watching all these 20 somethings think they have a shot at a Olympic team so they work at a shoe store just so they can train. pathetic.
off with his head.

I totally agree. I read the article and my thought was "he was stealing"
But since he was stealing shoes from his employer it's embezzlement.
