A poster on my other thread got me thinking about the origin of Letsrun.com. I done some research and found this stuff.
This is the earliest homepage i could find. It's from June 2000.

At this time. The website was struggling to survive with threats of closure.

And here is a view of the old messageboard. I love Wejo's thread title about Ritz's race being broadcast on radio. Looks like the radio broadcast went down as xcrunner5000 is asking "what happened to the broadcast". Not much has changed here, only technology.

Thought this might be interesting. Letsrun, the birth, the fight for survival, the old school forum.

Where is the rise of the troll?
-
Loved the thread title " why are there so many idiots on this board"
-
Do we have enough data to determine when LetsRun turned into a toilet full of racist, self-absorbed 15-year-old know-it-alls?
-
Anyone know what Dr. Moore is doing these days? Did he try and qualify for the 2004 olympic trials too?
-
I popped in a few times that first summer and sort of remember the site changes. The place has always had some edge and turmoil. It was a bloodbath during the 2000 election debacle, followed by weeks of debate over guess what? Climate change.
The other stuff picked up a few years later. 2003 and 04 had some crazy ugly times.
Heavier moderation, although quite biased if you get the drift picked up in about 2004 and 05.
Flagpole has been a pia since at least 2002.

Love to get nostalgic over Letsrun of old. Always a fair amount of snark but I think it got particularly bad when the Dyestat boards shut down (the younger posters moved over here.)
Some great threads lost to the years. RIP Powerpoint... -
And the Fannypack thread. Solid gold, those were.
-
Wait. Nationals was in Eugene back then too!?!
-
Anyone remember the original Grote and Schiefer board that became TNFmedia?

Fun to see that so many of the posts back then were about speculating on which athletes are dirty, or accusing athletes of being dirty.
I also like the "What do coaches earn" topic. How many times has this come up? 3 times a month for the past decade we get a new thread on this topic? -

lol. This^ Every so often people complain about this board turning to crap. But people always have done that. i.e.:
"It's been fun, but there is just too much negative energy here and too many new as$holes who post bullshit and lots of great people who used to post all the time who have left or gone underground. I'm out. Life is too short. I'll be in kona. Hope to see some of you there. Paulo knows how to find me" -
I did enjoy Kilgore's posts... and Mr. Chest.
Also back there if you really got under someone's skin you'd get a "You sir!......" moment. Dont see much of that any more. -
wouda been "interesting" to see what the message board page wouda looked like if it had existed in '96 when komen ran 7'20 !?

It would have said:
HTTP 503 Service Unavailable -
for how long ?

Fixed it for you, brother! -
Can we get an "anything goes" forum back? Says it was unmoderated. Hopefully then the trolls can all just hang out and get each others' rocks off in there.

Great website, where the talent is the talent.

It's entertaining to look back, especially since I'm relatively new here. This place is very much like a locker room. You have the wise seniors, the lost freshmen, the dumb*ss slackers, the complete trolls that while obnoxious get a few laughs. Discussions from running training, shoes, times, to politics to relationships to food, all spoken on by various opinions who all think they know everything about everything.
It's wonderful here.
