Probably because his wife is close to giving birth. I thought it was said by the announcers? at Outdoors or maybe a previous meet that his wife was on bedrest with 6 weeks to go. Birth of twins>>>>>>>an AR attempt

Running the Diamond League 5000m this weekend!

Why is Rupp not in this race taking another crack at it? As we discussed, he could try and get it right this time (if up to it), by running even split 12:50 pace on the heels of the pacers ('like white-on-rice', remember?) to try and take down the AR. -
Ryan Hill and Bumbi, too. Didn't Hill say after USAs that he wasn't feeling great and that he planned on taking a little break? Hopefully this means he's gotten to a better place and is ready to hit a PR.
Can Levins, Mead, Bumbi, and Hill do better in this race than True managed in Paris? -
I just noticed a mens 2 mile race without a start list available yet...Anyone have any idea who may be in that race?

What special requirements are required to get him into these races?
Further, what, if any politics (and $$$ speak) goes on in the background (by the shoe companies, for example) to get some athletes entered and or excluded at the various meet events, particularly for those folks that are not a clear dominant record holder/world champion (i.e., the big draws like Bolt, Fraser-Pryce, that can be entered by defacto anytime they want to get in)? -
Another question:
If enough fans complained to the Diamond League, would it make a difference in getting Universal Sports to improve their (currently terrible) coverage of the 5000m races? If they are not going to show the whole race LIVE and UNINTERRUPTED to their paying customers, they could at least provide a tape replay of the full race later, no? -
I feel NBC/Universal is having a negative impact on track and field. They are just plain bad for the sport. They reduce accessibility by putting almost all the Diamond League meets on a premium station that a lot of people don't have. Sorry, virtually nobody is going to pay extra to get a cable package with Universal to watch track meets. They they make distance races basically impossible to watch on TV because they show very little of the races. And the coverage they do have, for any race, is terrible because their announcers are terrible.
I pray for the day NBC/Universal stops bidding for rights to Diamond League meets and some other broadcasting comes and gives us a better product. NBC/Universal clearly has NO interest in improving this product. -

You make some decent points. I don't mind their announcers, when they are actually talking about the race. It's the cutting away and missing over half of the race coverage that I find a major bummer. It's bad enough that the greedy corporations buy up rights and overly restrict access; then to not even provide the coverage (of the 5000m race in this example) for the paying customers, and some later replay freebies is a drag. -

just a guess, no inside knowledge, maybe mo farah, my guess is maybe he wants to have a glorified appearance race, not wanting to race the caliber of runners in the 5000 in his first race after his marathon last april.
now i hope i am wrong and the field is loaded with runners like farah, rupp, ndiku, new star kajelcha etc. -

Would be a good race for Rupp, his indoor AR is 8:07.41 while Teg's outdoor AR is 8:07.07 so he's definitely got the ability to do it. The question would just be how fast will the race actually go? Mo only needs to beat 8:13.51 so the pace might not be just quick enough for the American Record especially given the fact that we're not really sure of what shape Farah is in. However, I don't think he'd ask for the meet officials to add a 2 mile to just jog it, hopefully it'll be a fast pace and we see a few 8:0x two miles -
Rudisha in the 800 vs. Job Kinyor, Osagie, Centrowitz, and Sowinski. Sammy Tangui is back as Rudisha's pacer of choice. It'd be cool if Rudy dipped to 1:43.low and pulled Centro and Sowinski to PBs.
Nijel Amos is running the 400 against some 44xx guys. It will be interesting to see what he can do; I'll say 45.2. -
rupp's not gonna go to europe when his wife is due with twins
-
Why have a 2 mile along with a 5000? just dilutes the field
-
Ndiku maybe is taking the week off after his 8th place last week.
After winning the world indoor 3K and the Pre 5K, maybe he's off his peak.
For those athletes who bring their fitness to a sharp peak indoors, it can be tough to hold together for the whole outdoor season. I feel that both Gebriwet and Rupp suffered from too high an indoor peak in 2014. Maybe Ndiku has done his best running for this year?
Or, maybe he's sharpening his kick for the Monaco 1500.
Sidenote: Maybe Mo will show up in the Monaco 1500 again? -
Correction: Gebriwet and Rupp burned out from indoors in '13, not '14.

Do you want Mo Farah there or not? If you do, you make the race as he wants it. -

Except the 2 mile has been cancelled. Will Mo Farah run the 5k instead? Is he hurt? -

"On bedrest" is a nonsensical medical directive in the third trimester.
