Surprised? Nah.
Maybe surprised to see him lose a race for the first time in almost a year (world youth).
Will he medal? Nah.
What a talent.

The play by play was awful. They were clueless.
They were totally clueless. I'm somewhat surprised he made the team, but lets face it, the college guys were baked. Running meets since Dec/Jan. GF picks his spots and races 2-3 times indoor and only doubles at a few meets for his High School (Conf, Regional, State). They (His dad, private coach, and GF) prepared for this moment and he delivered. Pretty damn impressive. Very impressive.

Not to point out the complete obvious, but you posting the initials GF made me realize that Grant is probably the best high school runner we've seen since German Fernandez. Magic in the "GF".

He said "high school runner", not "cheating gypsy scam artist who attended high school in his 20s".

For the last time, Lithuania keeps accurate birth records and LV graduated high school in 3 years so that his senior year was regular-age.

Good point. The college guys race too much

Who were the announcers? I listened to the woman's 3k and it was about as bad as you can get. thinking the 3k was an olympic event (one of them at least, the other wasn't that bad as he kept correcting the other guy with some common sense at least). Comments about maybe jenks is lulling Cain to sleep (as Cain is pulling away from her..). Saying there are 2 laps to go when there were 3 laps, on and on with stupid comments.

Maybe not too much for their own seasons, especially if there are second-tier runners on their respective teams. The elite-tier collegiate runners generally won't race as often, as they often plan on racing into the summer.
He's Lithuanian? For Pete's sake, how can he be then an American HS sub 4 holder. He's just another foreigner who weasled his way in to HS. He definitely is a gypsy
Sean McGorty had an impressive high school career and has transitioned well to college.
3:49 for the 1500 as a HS Senior.
4:04 full mile as a HS Senior.
8:45 for full two mile as a HS Senior.
14:28 5K as a HS Senior.
1:53 800 as a HS Senior and I've watched him casually split 1:51s.
On the note of his transition to college, McGorty has run 3:44 in the 1500 and 13:37 in the 5K. Impressive performances for a true freshman.
Fisher's youth does add an element of impressiveness to his performances, but he's not so far and away better than some of the top runners we've seen since Fernandez.
Can't wait to see what GF does at World Juniors!
Also, I'd heard the name McGorty, but didn't know his exact times. 4:04/8:45 as a HS runner marks him as one of the best, and I'm glad to hear he's improving as a freshman. Didn't he do fairly well at NCAAs? I seem to remember reading about him there.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that to go to high school in America you had to be American-born or even American. In any case, LV came to the US when he was 9 I believe and is in fact an American citizen.
As for your last sentence....just no.

Had you not said those were his initials, I would've gone through this entire discussion thinking his girlfriend was his coach. Which then got me thinking of a girl his age that would be great enough to coach. Which then got me thinking of that picture he tweeted of him and Mary Cain... damn how cool was that side tracked thought streak??
Also a pretty good run by high school soph Tamagno.

Ahahaha. Honestly I just forgot about LV. Wasn't deliberately excluding him.
