No, your logic went so far off course I don't even know where.
The best potential soccer players aren't in the NBA, NFL, MLB, etc.
It's that too many of the best potential soccer players, didn't play soccer, they ended up getting sucked into football and basketball from a young age. They never went pro in those sports, maybe didn't even play in college, but the point is they did not ever get recruited to play soccer at a high level and that is why they never developed as soccer players. The best athletes played football even if it wasn't THEIR best sport, they were just good enough to play, and soccer got the second pick from the talent pool.
Well, I was trying to present an argument that I do not agree with.
I do not believe that just because an athlete is in the NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL, he is necessarily a better athlete than a pro soccer player or track & field athlete.
Each sport represent a specific skill set and just because you're great in one of those four, it does not follow that you would be great in any athletic activity. This seems obvious?
Consider distance running. A super star NFL athlete is not going to be a super star at running 10k. But if you believe that a 27 min 10k runner is not among the best athletes because that activity is not as "athletic" as football activity, then I think you're misguided.
Although, I might have a misunderstanding about what "athlete" means?
