One of our top Steeplechasers is in the lead at 38 miles at Western States (2-min lead)...
Should be interesting.

Max dropping 6:30's from Miller's Defeat to Last Chance! Crazy!
Best of luck to Max. If he wants to win, he better hope he has a big cushion on Rob Krar at mile 90. That dude closes pretty fast.
Also, interesting to note that his mile 43.8 split is the same, down to the minute as the course record split at that point from 2 years ago, and 4 guys (former 10k olympian Mike Aish, Rob Krar, Miguel Hernandez, and Seth Swanson, some guy I've never heard of) are 3 minutes back. Looks like they're not sandbagging.
wake me up when it's over.
The real race starts at 80 miles.
It'll be interesting to see if Max hangs on. Aish usually fades in ultras really badly. I think Krar will run with King in second, then it's wide open for third.
Max is amazing
I'd rather watch a go pro feed of king's race, rather than this garbage meet.
He is running naked with his # pinned on his junk.
Let's see who's still there at 95 miles.
I'm surprised King is taking it out fast given his problems in the past with the 50 mile distance.
Will he blow up, or is this a new era in ultrarunning? My money is still on Krar in the perfect position - but we will see.
Max is in the lead at 90K wearing a straw cowboy hat.. pretty awesome.
link to the hat?

arm warmers... not hot enough?
Those are cooling arm-warmers, J.R.
Interestingly, he quadrupled his lead in the hillier middle section, where I would have expected him to drop some time to Krar. Climbing is probably his biggest weakness, but he's still gapping people on the uphills, so that's a good sign.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
