If you run an 800 PR in a negative split 800 (61/56), what can you expect to run doing typical positive splits?

There is only so fast that you can run the second lap no matter how slow you run the first lap.
You may go out in 60, 61 or 62 and still manage a close of 56.
With a 61/56 (1:57), I think the first lap should be run in at least 56, maybe 55.
Maybe a 56/58 (1:54) or a 56/57 (1:53) or a 55/58 (1:53).
So my conversion for those splits is 1:53 or 1:54.
next time go out in 58. if you can negative split that, go out in 56. continue until a 1.5 to 2.5 second positive split feels like even effort. don't think about the next race, think about 5 races from now, or whenever your peak is
i've got a prelim formula for elites for what the difference between a -ve split 800 & a 2s +ve split woud be :
~ 0.3 * ( ( 2nd lap split - 1st lap split ) - 2 )
i suggest you wouda been 2.1s faster with 2s +ve splits
off topic but relevant to topic heading :
it's interesting to note that Ryun set only -ve split 800WR in living memory
in '66 on a semi-synthetic track, for 880y he ran 1'44.9 with splits of 53.2/51.7
a 800 is 0.6s quicker so his 800 splits were ~ 52.9/51.4
using above formula, his expected +2s split time wouda been expected to have been
~ 1.1s
for a
1'43.2
back in '66 on a track little/no faster than dirt & so ill he shoudn't have even been running !!!

Some of the answers you are getting are absurd. Especially from that guy who cannot even understand staggered starts on a curve.
Your uneven split 1:57 might be good for a 1:56, maybe even a 1:55. No way it is 1:53.
The guy who say to go out in 58 and then see what you've got is right on. But really the only meaningful answer is the one that you race next time out.

unless you have head on vid to show the path of the 1k wr holder on 1st bend, don't waste my time
it's
6.8m
extra distance run, minimum, in a 1k race of 2'11.96
6.8m
extra off a suicidal 49.8 start with a 3'29.1 win from 44 hours before, crumbling his legs
that 1k IMO makes him 2nd best 800/1500 talent of all-time behind Ryun at
~ 1'39.9 / 3'24.2
i reckon 1k WR holder couda gone 2'10.25 fully rested/lane 1 from gun/proper 51+ start
i reckon he had 46-low speed, call it 46.3
in reiti, if fully rested his theoretical ability for perfect races was :
46.3 / 2'10.25 ->
1'41.38
3'25.00
except at his young age, i believe he wasn't yet fully developed miler & i'd drift that out to
3'25.5
i'd however give him full value for
1'41.38
1. Who is surprised that Ventolin enters a thread only to a) start talking about a clever formula he's devised and b) masturbate to Jim Ryun?
2. I recently split a 56mid + 58 mid for a low 1:55, so I'm confident that a 1:54 is in the cards soon.
So my response of 56/58 for 1:54 was pretty spot on since you just did a 56/58 for 1:55.
You'll be at 1:53 soon enough.
