From her Twitter account:
Super bummed to not be racing USA track nats. Healthy and excited to start fall marathon training! BIG goal......sub 2:20 requires work!

Pretty sad that she can't interrupt her training to run her national championship. Do runners think this little of USA nationals? It's bad enough when runners like Rowbury don't even compete in their best event. Kind of sad.
I'd agree except Flanagan is usually a big proponent of running national championships. She often runs USA XC even though many big stars don't, and she's run outdoor nationals even when not at her best (during London Olympics buildup, ran the 1500 when still struggling a bit in 2010). So it's a bit surprising to hear this. Maybe she missed some time due to a minor injury and is better but not ready to race a 10k?

This. She gets a pass on this. Girl is always at the championships. I am thinking that she isn't sharp enough to race a 10k now and made a last-minute decision based on her body and training results.
Shalane does not duck competition and I like her for that.
She didn't mention an injury in her tweet. I would think she could win without even tapering. You might be right. Why would she pull out just the day before unless something has changed either with her health or something else?

Sad not to see her run, but you're probably right. Cool runner. Very consistent.

It's a job. She shouldn't be expected to compete for pride.
Flanagan is ducking Hasay!
This pretty clearly indicates she's not doing NYC, if she's starting her build-up this early and talking about sub-2:20. It's Berlin or Chicago,

How amazing would an American sub-2:20 be?

Ask Deena Kastor.

Damnit, I can't believe I forgot her!
I kinda agree with this analysis. They see each other running at NIKE training headquarters. Word is that Jordan is flat out fit and ready. Maybe SF is not quite that ready. Anyway, whatever the decision, hats off to Shalane, a great runner!!!!
I love Hasay, but your comment is stupid.

should we assume Chicago, then?

Close - it's AlSal and Jerry conspiring to get Hasay a national title.

Will Flanagan be running again? No?
Well then....
Flanagan is ducking Hasay!
I hope history is the best guide here and this is a one time thing. Look how well full time marathoning has worked for Hall...

It's worked pretty darn well for Hall, and what was his alternative - be a 2nd-tier track 10000m guy?
