If I was betting, I'd bet Rupp doesn't run, citing his wife's pregnancy. He was indeed impressive at Oslo, and in the 10K before that at Pre, but conditions for those races were better than what he'll encounter at Sacramento. Temps are expected to rebound from relatively cool conditions today to reach 90 in Sac on Friday, and Sac doesn't cool off nearly as quickly as Eugene does once the sun goes down.

Don't know why just 2 names being mentioned here. Lagat probably narrow favorite but Rupp not necessarily the only one likely to pull it off. I'm saying this WITHOUT taking the 10k double into account. Throw that into the equation and Rupp IMO definetly NOT favored. Big list of contendors (will leave analysis to LRC) and winner will be one who DID NOT run the night before.

Probably a similar race to last year's, but not quite as hot (temp wise). If Lagat is on I'm not sure what Rupp can do to beat him. The head to head record says it all.

Rupp should avoid travelling until his wife gets through the pregnancy. The first pregnancies is the toughest. His wife is small which makes it tougher. She is having twins, tougher still.

Factor in that Rupp will be doubling back from the 10K on Thursday and the 5K is on Friday. That's a tough double with no rest in between.

Galen loses whether he beats Lagat or not.

Mead ran a 13:02 but then had a rough go at Pre. If his form is still there, I think he'd beat Bumbalough in a fast race. Doubt this one is going faster than 13:20ish, though.

Hill had that insane string of performances from 12 months to 6 months or so back but hasn't seemed to regained that yet.

Lomong ran a 13:07 at Payton Jordan but only managed a 13:25 (12 seconds behind Bumbalough and 22 behind Rupp) in his last race.

Bumbalough is not a confident pick for 2nd, but he's shown the best form in recent weeks of anyone. Could see him anywhere in the top 6.

Oh he did? I missed that result. The last one I'd seen was the 13:31 at Pre, 30 seconds back from the win.

Yeah, this was after that bombshell and was either 7:36 or 7:37, albeit 4-5 seconds behind Ndiku.

Where is the punishment in this?

OK, he'll get 2nd. Damn.

Lagat will outrun the field by 10secs.

Rupp can win this too if he makes sure the abovementioned gap

doesnt' get bigger than 3secs.

Bob Kennedy might be in the mix too.
