Why do I want Mary Cain to Lose to Alexa Efraimson so bad????

How is Efraimson an underdog? She is maybe the second greatest American female distance runner in history?

Probably because deep down you hate yourself.

i dont see either girl as "the powerful" i see them as unusually precocious, excellent potential, still they are both really just prospects at this point.

i hope they both pan out, as i hope cranny, baxter, rogers (both daesha and raevyn) pan out.

In addition to rooting for underdogs our culture likes to see the next big thing. That's why we're always quick to hype some 10 year old that runs an amazing time. We feel some sort of credit in saying we saw them first.

I won't lie--you kinda hit the nail on the head with with I'm rooting for Team Alexa. I know it's not fair, and I won't act like it's logical, but it guess it's how my emotions are.

As I've said, I wasn't following the sport when Cain got all of her records, so there's that too. I've been following Alexa in recent months, so I guess because I'm more familiar with her and root for her,

This for the most part. I think we are all tired of his antics. Sure I wouldn't mind seeing Cain win, but I would prefer others in the field.

I root for Cain cuz she is far more exciting, what with her combination of insane speed, ridiculous kicks, and great endurance. Efraimson doesn't have those things like Cain. At least not yet. Efraimson has got a few years before she's gonna be beating some of the top US women or any top international women. Cain will probably be doing that this year or next year.

I tend to feel this way as well, which is why I always try to clarify that I want the best for both girls before posting. I think often it's hard but important to remember when talking about these world-class sheets that they're still in high school and are children, for all intents and purposes.

A lot of people resent Cain's talent and advantages in life. It's basically envy, I guess.

I think it's the same dynamic, at least for some, as their dislike of Rupp. I've never met him, but people who have tell me he's a decent guy. Maybe it's just human nature, at least for some, to resent their "superiors."

In a strange way, I guess I'm lucky: I haven't been able to run for 40+ years, so just about everyone on this board is my superior in that respect. I don't have the energy to resent them all! So I just wish everyone well, and try to focus on getting by.

You may be sick of Salazar, being exceptionally sensitive or something, perhaps allergic to achievement, but most of us appreciate his huge contributions to US track and field, unparalleled by any other coach in this century.

What? Efraimson certainly has some of those things already. Didn't she start off as a sprinter? And didn't she win NXN nationals xc? Considering who she beat and how, she probably would have beaten Cain too.

The difference between Cain and Efraimson is very small at this point, and Efraimson still has 2 months to improve her times.

Is she a junior or a senior by the way?

I guess you don't realize how small, petty & weak this makes you sound... Pulling for one HS girl to beat another because you're a loser? Grow up, clown.

Kind of hard to root against either kid, but if I had to pick, I would prefer to see Cain win because she is a year older and has paid more dues. Cain is also quite a bit better at this stage and I like to see the best athlete win.

I would also like Cain to win. It wouldn't bode well for girls trying to achieve national-level success at an early age if Cain only had one successful year.
