Is it possible to have a lactate threshold of 100% of your vVo2 max? Jtup Tinman?
Is it possible to have a lactate threshold of 100% of your vVo2 max? Jtup Tinman?
What?
No.
i once had a coach who insisted "we give 110% a 110% of the time." so i say it is.
The speed at which your maximum oxygen consumption occurs is you vVo2 max. Your velocity at OBLA is your lactate threshold. Most runner's LT is 85-92% of vVo2. I was wondering what the limiting factor to obtaining 100% of vVo2max in Lactate threshold.
At some point, even the most genetically gifted and trained runner is going to start to recruit fast-twitch motor units in order to maintain pace. This is typically when LT occurs. This is one of the main reasons for lactate accumulation exceeding clearance as these fibers have low mitochondria and high LDH and other enzymes facilitating lactate production. Since everyone has SOME fast twitch motor units, everyone does this at some intensity that is below vVO2max. Therefore, you will always have an LT < vV02max even in the best of circumstances.
