As someone who never had a kick myself, I really wanted Cuffe to win. She wasn't complaining about it. All of us non-kickers know it's up to us to win it before the final 400.

Her quote doesn't sound as if she is complaining. She acknowledged Hall had a good win and she stated how she felt about the tactics. When does saying you don't like the situation mean you are complaining about it?
I could see Cuffe being that type of runner who will burn others once there is 2km to go. She doesn't want to have to rely on her last 400 but knows leading the whole way doesn't work as often.

I too wanted Cuffe to win, taking the lead after for the last 2/3rd's of the way is tough, and I hate when people just sit the whole way and this is part of why I have no respect for Cheserek, and am really glad the Lalang won the 5k, because he just sits right on 1st place like a hog for a whole 5k or 10k then kicks w/ 250 to go and I really don't like coaches who tell there runners to do that...
I think Cuffe long term will end up better than Marielle Hall/ Abbey Dag's, and she def needs to be praised for her brave efforts in that 5k
For whoever said that Hall was just the better runner that day, I'm not sure if I would 100% agree w/ that, now if the race had been 15:10-15:20 maybe, but all it showed was that Hall had the best "kick" that day, that doesn't mean she's the better runner... If that had been an all out Payton Jordan set up 5k, then I have no doubts that it would have been 1) Cuffe 2) Dag's 3) Hall, but it wasn't, And I think Cuffe was the better runner overall in this situation...
I hope Cuffe is able to find a good contract next summer, and signs with someone who will develop her well

Hmmm...the last time I checked a "kick" is the act of running very fast at the end of a race so that would qualify as being a better runner, she obviously had enough strength to get to that point of the race at the same time as Cuffe and was stronger/faster than her over the the last lap so despite your disdain for "sit and kickers", Hall was the better runner that day as evidenced by her win. She didn't cheat or fly or use any other means of tranport to get to the finish, she ran, you know the way competitors do in championship races to win.
This is the kind of drivel that makes folks nuts, most informed nuts anyway.
Hall has NO obligation to lead one lap , neither does Cheserek, who won 10K easily and got a free ride to a PR in a wildly competitive 5K final, especially on tough double backs.He and the great Lalang, who just seems to only know how to run one way anyway.Kithuka, another guy who just refuses to not lead until he runs out of gas.

Folks need to get a clue, your job if you are a top contender is to win, period. There is no honor in getting out there in a solid pace and getting banged down.

Yes, but drafting has been scientically proven to reduce the energy output produced by the runner drafting, plus there was a slight wind in that 60% of the wind is cut off to the person who is drafting, and Cuffe only got beat by just under 2 seconds, so YES, I can say that Cuffe was the better runner that day... If Hall lead, no way she would have won... Those 71's and 72's Cuffe put out were a lot harder by her than Hall and crew that sat on her... Why do you think TT set up races include pacers? Do you think distance WR's would be the same w/ out pacers? Do you think Rupp would have PR's of 3:50, 7:30, 8:07, 13:01i, 26:44 if it wasn't for the pacers he ordered? Do you think that the runner in front when there's a 10mpw wind blowing is in the same boat as the drafter? No...
I wept when reading this. I remember leading with someone on my should the last five laps only to be outkicked. So sad, so very very sad (and lacking in decency).

That sentiment is prevalent but doesn't make any sense. Yes 2.8km is better than 400m for a stronger runner, and 5km is even better. The runner who runs for 5km, all other things being equal, is going to beat the one who does not.

Wrong, and nicknames are at the top of the messages.
Hall was the better runner on that day, period, because neither Cuff nor D'Agostino coule beat her, even though the ran as hard as they could. If they didn't run as hard as they could, then don't make excuses!
Why did Cuffe wait for the last 7 laps? Does waiting make her a better runner than she was? No, it does not. What is she going to say, well I should have run hard from the start, or I need to kick harder?
Whatever. The point is she didn't have what it took on that day. Hall was the better runner, period, regardless of the pace.

Drafting also helps the runner in front. Cuffe benefitted by Hall being slightly behind her, but Hall still beat her anyway.
