11 and under 1500 record is 4:21 by a Finn two years ago so thats in the 4:40's for a mile which is superiour to that 4:55 that he is targeting for next year..
still cool that he likes running and is good at it.
too many variables to determine what happens down the road. if he is equally talented at soccer he should probably stick with that. if he's prusues running then he'll probably be somewhere between all state and all american in high school.
kids who are all world in the sprints or the field events tend to be closer to all world in high school or college than the kids who run fast XC or mile times as pre-pubescents. Probably has something to do with neurological imprinting & shifts in fiber types with sprinting and development of proper technique in the field events. where as you have some kid who just plays tag and ball sports and maybe swims and then they pick up running competitively at age 12 instead of age 6 and they are probably behind for a little while but then overtake your 10 and under mile world record holder around age 14-15 and never look back.
