Marielle Hall pulls a shocker, takes down Abbey D in 5k - Wins in 15:35.11!!

We had the last 600 as 34.71, 33.18, 30.36.

she probably pulled a minor barringer - just got overwhelmed with graduation, finals, etc. And remember she tripled at conference, right? She prob just had enough.

It's no surprise to me. Marielle Hall has shown improvement all year and she has good speed.

She definitely didn't dial it back. As soon as Cuffe took over and started pushing the pace, and the top three broke away, she looked uncomfortable hanging on the back. At first I thought it was okay, because other times I've noticed she looks bad but then still has a great finish. But once the tiny gaps started forming between her and Hall it seemed obvious that something wasn't right. Maybe she chose to try and somewhat train through this to peak for USAs and other summer meets?

67 is a good last lap for her.

I think that is a faster final 600m than that pathetically slow 1500m race

Tremendous race by Hall.

I had never heard of her a year ago and now her future is as bright as anyone's.

Does anyone know more about her background. Texas is not known for producing distance runners.

She choked today, true enough. Overwhelming favorite according to everyone. Good thing I didn't end up at the Sports Book!

Not that anyone here knows, but she could have any number of things wrong with her - anemic, mono, etc. Sh*t happens. I don't trust the NCAA coaches or trainers to diagnose this either. I coached a girl who is in an NCAA program, but raced terribly this spring. Her coach said it was mental, her blood test (which I, not he, advised she get done when she got home) said she had mono. Don't know if in fact AD has anything other than a bad race (for her), but wouldn't be surprised if it were something else as this isn't like her just to have nothing left, not like it was fast for her (PR 15.11).

She lhas been running on fumes all season. It's been a long 2 yrs and she needs a break.

PR was 16:22 last year.....WOW

What is Hall's background? What events did she do in highschool and in college before this year? She looks very muscular too.

Hall's last 600 in 1:38, pace for her 800 PR, lol.

No surprise that the happy pair of announcers didn't mention Marielle Hall. Their ignorance of the athletes was remarkable. Anyone who watched Marielle race at Stanford would have picked her as one of, if not THE favorite. Marielle has both a fluid style, and is clearly strong, unlike most of the sad eating disorders apparent on tracks these days. She has reasonably fast 1500 times and was not struggling during the NCAA 5000. She is both a beautiful runner, beautiful girl, and bright.

It will be interesting to see her career choice.

Too bad that running careers must usually be short. Were I her dad I'd rather she take her discipline and talent where there is a future living to be made. Her running reminds a little of Galen, or the youngest Dibaba sister Abebe - no wasted motion with strength in reserve.

She did not look comfortable at any point in the race.

If 67 is good for her, what about the 71 seconds that she actually ran?

She's from Haddonfield High School in southern New Jersey.

It's the same school as Erin Donohue. There is a freshman there who just won the NJ MOC.
