Fantastic race by Fisher. He's a smart runner and he's a cut above the rest. It'll be interesting to see how a lot of these guys do next week at Brooks PR. The Maton and Fisher rivalry will be a thing next fall. 4:02, 4:03, and 4:07 (with no speed) returners to footlocker could mean it's a race for the ages.

I'm a bit annoyed at the Dream Mile qualifiers; I'm not sure they should exist or at least they should be more high profile. With all due respect to some of the athletes, like Zackery Summerall, who are fantastic athletes, their spots should have been given to other people who may have had a chance to win. Haik had only run 4:11 before last week, Summerall has never run better than 4:14, yet they both were given autospots while guys like Austin Tamagno who had run 4:06 couldn't sniff at the meet.

Austin will most likely get two shots to run the dream mile.

That's probably true. I'm not really sure what I think. The idea of qualifying meets for such a big race is smart, but the execution is a bit unwieldy. Haney made it in on the basis of winning a qualifying meet his sophomore year...and then ran an excellent race to finish in last or next-to-last, never even seeing the leaders it seemed.

The field can thank Josh Evans for pulling them to an honest pace when the going got tough. It could have very easily turned into a tactical race and less impressive times in breezy conditions.

Evans was great. Wasnt a fan before, but now I am. He looked like he was just going to float away with the win for a while.

I just like the kid because he's never backed down from anyone or the clock when he was on his own here in Iowa. I hear everyone giving kudos to kids with leg speed in the race but he's also split 1:50 and his 4 races at state were pretty incredible with the 4th race of the meet being a 4:06/1600. He has an incredible recovery rate. I hope to see him excel at Iowa St in the near future.

Are you sure Austin Tamagno was not invited? Are you his parent or coach? How do you know? Many of CA kids declined. Brooks PR is much closer, has just as good of a field and is a week later (meaning some time to recover from the state meet). I know for a fact that at least 5 CA girls declined to run in the dream mile after receiving an invitation.

Great time for any race, but what kind of finish did he have?

Lets all give a shoutout to Wesley Pectol- comes from a small town, he didn't even run the mile FR year, ran 4:24 as a sophomore, 4:21 as a junior, and comes our here and blast a 4:05.25 to break the TN State Record, set by who? Andrew Bumbalough who has run a 8:13 2mile, 13:12 5k, and runs profesionally in Oregon for the Schumacher group, Pectol is going to Auburn next year, and is the real deal!

I'm surprised he even got 3rd. He's exhausted. I know he wanted to double at the Cal State meet, but he and his coach knew going in that temperatures would be over 100. He ran prelims in the 1600 on Fri., and then won the race on Sat. And this after attempting to run with the pros at the Pre meet a week before (didn't turn out so well). He comes back in the 3200 less than two hours after winning the 1600 final in 4:08. Unsurprisingly, he had nothing in the tank and finished 3rd in 8:58 and change. I think Haney has talent, but talk about poor planning in his racing schedule.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Fisher continues to go back and forth between soccer and track. He plays on a very good team (Michigan Hawks), and according to his soccer profile he's been selected for ODP. My sense is that unless he makes a U.S. Youth National Team, which would make him a high profile target for the best soccer programs, he's better off sticking with track, where he's definitely a high profile target already. He says he'll choose and stick with one sport next year. If it's track I'm inclined to guess either Michigan or Stanford, seeing that he's an A student.

Not naming anyone in particular, but there are too many of these 'invitational" quality races for these kids. It's a wonder more don't struggle as freshmen in College (and some do it seems). What will seem more out of kilter (to me anyway) as that few will show up to try out for their Junior National team (entries are often alarmingly low), yet go in meet after meet of these types. Back in the day there were only a few (Golden South, Golden West, etc.), now it seems there are a multitude of them - the DL meets (Pre, New York), the Relays (Penn, Drake), let alone the other Sate meets, qualifiers (sectionals, etc.) and other invitationals. When is is it too much, I don`t know, but this is a disturbing trend to me.

Look out for Sukhi Khosla in the fall as well. I know he didn't run well today, but his US #1 1600m time of 4:05.96 was at the state meet 6 weeks ago and he hasn't raced since. He will be at the Brooks PR Invite next week so hopefully he can post a better result now that he finally has a recent race under his belt.
