What is the fastest 200 meters ever run at the end of a decently fast 10k or decently fast 5k? Was that it!?
Did mo run a faster 200 in his 50s last lap in that 14min 5k last year?

But did you see that other guy?! I thought for a split second he might come up on Cheserek.
His 28:30 10K is a much more taxing effort than the 14:09-10 5K that Mo ran. 14:10 and 28:30 are too completely different levels. 14:10 is probably closer to the equivalent of a 29:30 10K. With that being said, I am more impressed with Cheserek running that last 200.
You must have been seeing things. The other guy was not a threat.
I don't know why you specified sub-30:00. It's not like people are running 35:00 10ks with 24 second last 200s...

Yeah I agree with that. I wonder what ches could run for an open 200? Like, if I took a really fast guy, and had him run a 10 at the effort level Ches just ran, could he close faster? Is it even possible? LIke if Matt Centrowitz ran 32 for a 10 and then sprinted, what would happen? Or Galen Rupp for that matter..

I guess what I'm asking is if there is any way for find out the fastest last lap and or fastest last 200 in an 5k/10k NCAA final or pro race.. That is a stat I would like to know.

What's really crazy, is he was not all out from 200 to the finish. It was like he slammed it down, did some checks and then clicked it back a few notches a few times into the finish.
Compared to say Bekele, Farah or Rupp when they go hard to the finish.
Obviously he shouldn't have gone all out once he knew he had it wrapped up, and didn't, which is why it's even more impressive. I wonder what he could do for 800?

If Ches wanted to race in a diamond league race in say, 2 months, and first place is a big prize (yes he couldn't accept it but imagine), what race would he have the greatest likelihood winning? Like, what will this guy's best distance be in the short term, and then also for his whole career? I know guys like Farah have shown incredible range, but does Ches have a sweet spot?
His sweet spot is where they inject him with the Oregon Juice.
The real question is, could anyone in the world have beaten Ches if they were on his shoulder with 250 to go tonight? I suspect not.
24 point to run under 12:55. Cheserek is a chump

Yes, 4 out of 4 on national title races - Ches is quite a chump.
That certainly wasn't a 24, but I see your point. Ches was still amazing though.

Yenew has done 24.xx though to win, but it was in either a 13:0x or a 13:1x from last year.
Kipchirchir (otherwise knows as the "other guy") was pretty amazing by any standard of NCAA running outside of Cheserek.
I think he truly felt he had a decent chance to win that race and outkick Cheserek. He was right behind Cheserek pretty much the entire race. He ran I guess 26 seconds for the final 200M. Why wouldn't you think you could win if you can do that?
Why is the modern day/internet runner like this, calling a multiple NCAA champ a chump. And the guy is a freshman! I remember when great runners like Pre, Lindgren, Rono, Kennedy, Goucher, Padilla, Chapa, Eyestone, etc., were lauded for their talents. So yenew, what's your 10K PR?
Simply amazing.

Tongue in cheek dude.
All the guy was getting at is that Ches may have a fast close but the pro's have demonstrated faster closes in faster races.
In a light-hearted sense he is a "chump" compared to guys like Farah, Alamirew, Gebremeskel,Soi, etc.
He won't be a chump at next years World Champs when he's on the podium.
